August is the peak tourist season on Santorini and 2014 was no exception. The four of us (including 2 teenagers) stayed here for a week. It was a most memorable vacation. The home is very quiet, placed right on the rim of the caldera with a tremendous view of the caldera. It is on the north side of Firostefani a 5 minute walk from Imerovigli (uphill) and a 5 minute walk to the center of Firostefani. If you wish to battle the cruise ship crowds, it is about a 10-15 minute walk to the center of Fira. There are mini markets in either direction as well as multiple restaurants all within walking distance. Although a vehicle is not necessary, it sure is helpful to explore the island. We had no problems with Santorini Holiday Cars who delivered and picked up our rental at the house. We enjoyed the open aired cinema at Kimari, the swimming hole at Amoudi port (our favorite), below Oia, the beaches at Vylchada beach, the Santorini Arts Factory (Vlychada) to see Human Touch, who were absolutely amazing in an amazing location, multiple amazing restaurants, Aegeon in Imerovigli, Ginger in Firostefani, Liminaki at Vlychada beach to name a few. We also enjoyed sea kayaking with Santorini Sea Kayak, a cruise on the Triton with Santorini Sailing (in Firostefani next to Ginger), and part of the hike between Fira and Oia. Poking around the ancient ruins at Akrotiri, the shops of Fira, dining on great Greek cuisine. I can not recommend this place highly enough.
Donia was absolutely a delight to work with. She was very responsive to emails and helpful with suggestions. Her home is a gorgeous cave home that is very accurately described in the listing. The beds were a bit firm, but we still slept well. Mr. Mihalis was absolutely a riot and extremely helpful. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, pots and pans, and we were started with supplies of oil, beer, juices, coffee (most importantly) and fruit. We enjoyed coffee, dining and sipping wine on the coffee. The wines of Santorini are a real treat, made even better by the magnificent surrounding.
I can only hope we will be able to return to visit again.
