We stayed 2 great weeks in Patt's Apt. Patt met us at the Apt, gave us a good lay of the land and had a load of literature, maps and historic information on Munich. Great location close to DB, lots of cafes, bakeries and restaurants. Tenglemann's Grocery just down the street - fresh, friendly and well stocked. Remember, most stores are closed on Sunday. Some restaurants close also so be prepared. We used the Apt as a base while traveling to CZ, Bavaria & Austria. Easy 20 min. walk to HBF. No need for a car, we walked everywhere. We used Radius Tours located on the north side of the HBF to tour Dachau and Neuschwanstein (Ludwig's Castle). The only advantage we found taking the "tours" was advanced tickets (timed to control tourist flow) and someone familiar with the route. We didn't learn anything we had not already read in the library of information at the Apt. The tour guides were well versed in their material but spent too much time herding the group through the "holiday" crowd on the DB and public buses. Next time I'm using the directions outlined on line and in the pamphlets. More time to explore on your own. We enjoyed running the well used paths along the Isar River, English Garden and Theresienwiese. The Bavarian Statue steps are a killer but looking out over the Oktoberfest grounds is it worth it. It's a wonderful 20 min walk to all the best sites in Old Munich (Marienplatz, Viktualienmarkt, St. Peter's and St Michael's) CAUTION: you have to walk through some of the best Shopping in Germany (Sendlinger) so stay strong. We used our Euro pass. Strongly recommend reservations in the summer and fall. Get the free EuroRail App. It's a life saver and doesn't need internet. While the Apt doesn't have AC it was cool and the shaded (secure) courtyard provided a pleasant breeze in the evenings. We wore light weight, easy to wash clothing that dried nicely on the folding drying rack over night. The shower is smaller than some people may be used to but no issues with water temperature or pressure. The kitchen is clean & fully stocked and we enjoyed several quiet meals after a long day on the town. The layout is ideal for two couples and the sectional sofa in the large bedroom could accommodate two children. Patt's suggestion of using the Lufthansa Airport bus from HBF was convenient at 10.5 euro. We enjoyed Glockenbach (MuellerStrasse49), Aroma (PestalozziStrasse24) and Faun (Hans-Sachs-Strasse17) to name a few local eateries. Can't wait to come back.
