LOVELY COTTAGE IN PEACEFUL SETTING

5 of 5
This lovely cottage, located just outside the small, picturesque village of Tremolat, is an ideal base to explore this part of the rich and historic Dordogne region. We were a group of 6--mom, dad, 2 kids (14 and 5), and 2 grandparents--who stayed for a week at the end of June 2014. The house with its many bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms and numerous common areas, comfortably accommodated our group with space to be together and apart. The pool, with its views over the adjacent walnut orchards, was a lovely place to swim and relax after a day of sightseeing. Our kids absolutely loved the pool and spent every afternoon in the water. There are too many things in the region to see and do to list them all. Suffice to say, if you stay here you will be as busy as you want to be and cannot possibly run out of things to do and see (we particularly enjoyed the prehistoric sites around Les Eyzies, Chateau Castelnaud and the market in Sarlat as well as a few markets in some of the smaller towns). Upon arrival at the cottage, we were greeted by the property manager, Simon, who helpfully provided a tour of the clean and well-kept property and grounds and showed us the location of key items. Simon was easily reached during our stay and happily accommodated our requests. Linens, including sheets, duvets, pillows and towels, were all very clean and to a high standard. The kitchen was well-stocked with pots, pans, plates and glasses for a group. It is very helpful to have a car to explore the area, although there is branch line train service to Tremolat which is within walking distance of the cottage. In addition to the train station, Tremolat has a number of amenities for such a small town--patisserie, market day, Relais & Chateaux restaurant, casual pizzeria and historic church--which complement the amenities of the cottage. At the time of our stay, only the upstairs (master) bedroom had air conditioning, but the thick stone walls of the house keep the lower level of the house very cool and the 2 downstairs bedrooms remained quite cool and comfortable for sleeping with just fans (despite experiencing temps around 85+ F/25+ C for several days/early evenings during our stay, which may be unusual). Overall, the property is well-set up and supplied and it was easy to connect and work with both the owner (Karen) and property manager (Simon) regarding our stay. We would love to return if our travels bring us to this part of the world again!

CHARMING COUNTRY HOME, TOTALLY RELAXING STAY

5 of 5
I don't want to sound like a broken record, but if you read the other reviews, be assured that they are all spot on! Not only is the home exactly as described, the owners, Pete and Shirlene are among the best hosts we have encountered in our half-dozen rentals we have been in. They were as excited about our visit as we were! They take such care to make sure everything is perfect and enjoyable. We got very detailed directions to make sure we arrived at the property easily. The home itself is beautiful, welcoming and comfortable. We found the kitchen to be equipped with everything we could possibly want or need. We prepared our breakfasts and cooked most of our dinners there. Lunchtimes we were usually out and about. Another wonderful feature is the fabulous fireplace in the living room. Each night we had a roaring fire and we sat and lounged, reading and listening to music until the embers went out! The bedroom had plenty of space and the bathroom was large. There is even a piano for those who want to play a few tunes. There is a very organized collection of information about the area for visitors to read: area sights, castles, services, groceries, restaurants, picnics, drives, etc. All very thorough. Lots of maps and directions. We took advantage of the information and planned our days. We usually started out early doing our exploring and then arrived back at the house in time to enjoy the backyard with a glass of wine and a good book. There is quite a library of books in the upstairs loft. We finished several books and left them for future visitors. We really enjoyed seeing the many castles in the area and the beautiful vineyards. We took several long walks from the house and we loved seeing the countryside on foot. We encountered lots of friendly cats and some of the areas famous "white cows". It is certainly a picturesque area and we can't wait to return to explore even more. Chez Peshi didn't really feel like a rental. It felt like it was "our" rental home. We were there for 5 nights and were amazed at how fast the days sped by.
