Arriving for my third stay at this apartment seemed like homecoming. After two long flights and the suddenness of being in Paris, it was wonderful to walk into a welcoming and familiar environment and feel instantly at home. But familiarity doesn’t mean taken for granted – the apartment still surprised me with its white airy space, the sunlight through the wall of windows, the ancient gnarled beams on the ceiling, the gleaming spacious kitchen.
And I’m still surprised by the benefits and pleasures of the now-familiar location. It’s amazing that there’s pretty well everything I need or want just a short walk from ‘my’ front door: supermarkets, wine shops, traiteurs, boulangeries, cafes, restaurants (including the legendary Bofinger)… Metro, buses, taxis… a huge twice-weekly street market… even a local theatre, the Opera Bastille!
After a third stay, I’m convinced that this is truly the apartment that has everything – and is, as its website promises, the perfect Paris rental. Only a few weeks after I reluctantly handed back the key, I’m already planning my fourth stay.
