A gorgeous house overlooking breathtaking gardens down to the Loire, with an unfailingly interesting panorama of bird life. Lavish provision of crockery, cutlery, glassware, linen, etc--way beyond normal for a rental house. All is comfortable, and living in the house is like a university course in architecture. Cathedrals & chateaux take a little driving but are all doable in day trips. The nearby supermarket has everything you need, down to huge artichokes and okay claret. The charming and intelligent gardiner is a special and unexpected plus.
The only downsides: the smell of dog in the drawing rooom and the ordinariness of the village, which of course you only see passing in and out of the walled grounds.
