LOVELY HOUSE IN BEAUTIFUL LOIRE VALLEY.

5 of 5
Dido to all the other 5 star reviews here. Frederique is a great Host. As she said, she was there when we needed her and not there when we did not need her. The house is as beautiful as it looks in the pictures. It was very clean and comfortable. My ten-year-old daughter enjoyed the pool and the huge yard where she could practice her soccer skills. The kitchen was well stocked with all kinds of goodies, which showed the generosity of our hosts. As for the location, it was perfect for our stay in Loire Valley. Close to many Chateauxs and to Paris as well. The bicycle ride from Blois to Chambord, despite my daughter's crash and getting lost on the way back was one our most memorable activities in the Loire Valley. I am an artisan baker. Frederique went out of her way to arrange a meeting with the famous local artisan baker Christophe Maureille. I found Mr. Maureille and his wife to be very sweet and down to earth people. Daily trips to Maison Maureille are a must! Also try La Parenthèse or Les Toques in Orleans for an excellent dinner. I highly recommend ' Le Pot Vert ' for your Loire Valley vacation.

IDYLLIC AND PEACEFUL

5 of 5
How can one improve on perfection? Our stay at the Barn exceeded our most hopeful expectations. Arriving in Paris and driving nearly four hours to our destination, we pulled up to the front gate and were immediately and warmly greeted by our host, Tim, who was putting the final touches on our accommodations. We met Steve, our other host, a bit later. Once inside, we knew it was “home”. Everything was impeccable. The attention to detail, gorgeous linens, comfortable bed, luxurious shower, tasteful furnishings, use of space, completely stocked kitchen with everything you could possibly need to prepare meals. are but a few of the pleasures awaiting you. But even more wonderful was the feeling emanating from the place. Located just ten minutes from the town of Chinon where you can find restaurants, fresh produce, and other supplies, the Barn sits idly and ever so peacefully in a pastoral setting. In the distance, a chateau captures your eye and seduces as the light plays off of it. Steve and Tim are simply the most engaging, kind, interesting, thoughtful people you could ever hope to meet. The consummate hosts with an unfailing instinct for their guests’ needs, they make you feel like part of the family, which amplifies an already wonderful experience. Not only was every comfort provided for, but we were also treated to a stocked refrigerator with all the fixings for a beautiful country breakfast (fresh bread, strawberries, milk, eggs, cheese, juice, yogurt, coffee, etc.) as well as a bottle of delicious local sparkling wine! Toward dinner time, we heard a soft rap on the door, and there they were bearing a tray with a gorgeous frittata, asparagus and cheesecake. We needn’t have worried about how or where to buy the essentials after our long travel day! The Barn is a perfect place from which to base your daily excursions. We visited the chateaux of Chenonceau, Azay-le-Rideau, Chambord, Angers and Villandry with its magnificent gardens. Not to be missed is a viewing of the Apocalypse Tapestry, dating to the 14th century, at Chateau d’Angers. An interesting contrast of contemporary tapestries can be found at the Musee de Jean Lourcat a short distance away. Two places highly recommended for lunch are the restaurant at Chenonceau and Etape Gourmande, a perfect place to seek out between Azay-le-Rideau and Villandry. Many thanks to Steve and Tim for their incredible hospitality and for providing us with rich and lasting memories.

MAGNIFICENT WINTER STAY

5 of 5
Our family spent a magical two and a half weeks at the guesthouse during the Christmas and New Years holidays. This property is truly amazing---words cannot adequately describe the setting of the guesthouse nor the beautiful grounds of the Chateau de la Briche during winter. The weather was pleasant and we had many days of sunshine. We enjoyed daily walks in the stunning forest and walked around the lake. We rode owner-provided bicycles throughout the property. The guesthouse is quite spacious and there was more than adequate heating to keep us as cozy as we wanted. The onsite caretaker, Thierry, was extremely pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed many treks to nearby chateaus, restaurants, street markets and other holiday attractions. During the holidays, the streets in all of the nearby towns were lit up with Christmas lights. The city of Tours, just half an hour away, had a fabulous holiday market, with wonderful knick-knacks and tempting food. Our only regret was leaving this beautiful property, when it was time to return home. We will surely come again and plan on another winter/spring visit in the near future.
