Valentine's Day Weekend in Burgundy

5 of 5
We spent our 4 day weekend (Feb-2015) at Maison Valois in the small village of Belan sur Ource in France. The village was very peaceful and our hike through the farm fields and vinyards was perfect. One of our outings was a day trip to Alesia (1 hour drive) where we visited the statue of Vercingetorix and the remains of the Gallo-Roman town that was built there after the Romans took over the area from the Gauls. Vercingetorix, translated as “Supreme ruler of warriors” was the leader of the Gauls in the city of Alesia. As we drove through the small village we happened upon a Poterie shop and made a small purchase. The pottery is made on site at the shop by the owner of the store. We were actually able to speak a little French with him. Overall Maison Valois was perfect, the amenties as advertised and we particularly enjoyed the BBQ. We look forward to a return trip when we can stay a little longer

Amazing stay at Chateau des Barrigards

5 of 5
The pictures do not lie. There are some beautiful antiques, silk draperies, top of the line appliances, large en suite bathrooms with tub and separate shower. There are two bedrooms on the 2nd floor and one on the 3rd. Each one is very private. We stayed on the 3rd floor. The decorating was perfect, oh that blue and white bathroom, gorgeous, and the view from our windows! Vineyards as far as the eye can see. Great to sit outside at the table for any meal, with wonderful conversation among good friends. Wifi is excellent. Easy to get into Beaune, also a short trip to what became one of the group's (3 couples) favorites, Nuit St George. Great lunch, al fresco, then a wine tasting in a local cellar. Returned another day to the same bistro for lunch again. Arnaud was always available by phone or email, (as was Pascal, the caretaker). He gave us a tour of the winery and we did enjoy the wine. How fabulous to drink the wine where it is produced. We have great memories. We've already recommended it to a friend. Susie L

Escape to the Beautiful Burgundy Countryside

5 of 5
We came on holiday to Burgundy wanting to get away to a village in the French countryside. La Bulniére is a beautiful estate in the charming medieval village of Mont Saint Jean and was just what we were looking for. The location is central to Burgundy and perfect for day trips to Beaune, Dijon, wine tasting, and touring the region. Jean, the owner, met us when we arrived and made sure that we settled in comfortably. He even delivered some special coffee for us when we were running low. On the first floor the home features a full kitchen with a dining area, a large adjacent living area with tv, a formal dining room and a large, sunny laundry room. There is also a powder room toilet in the central hallway under the stairs. The house also has wireless internet throughout which functions very well. The second floor has 2 master bedrooms with ensuite showers and sinks (no toilets), a powder room toilet in the hall, and 2 smaller bedrooms (one twin and one with 2 bunk beds) which share a large full bath (tub and shower) and toilet. We were just two couples, and so had plenty of room and privacy, but this house would be also great for a family with children. There is a wonderful restaurant right next door, "Les Roches" (check out the great abstract expressionist artwork which is for sale), and another fabulous one in nearby Saulieu, the Michelin rated "Bernard Loiseau." We loved using this beautiful home as a base of operations for our trip to Burgundy. We hit most of the highlights of Dijon and Beaune . . . even shopping the Saturday market in Beaune with a chef, and then preparing and enjoying a gourmet meal. It was wonderful to explore all the historic medieval villages and cathedrals and visit wineries, but it was even better to come home to our own little village, open up some great Burgundy wine, and enjoy the view from our grand estate! I highly recommend this beautiful property.
