A secret to share

4 of 5
A hidden gem - a beautiful property in a very, very quiet village, peaceful and very, very memorable. Planning is the key, the closest supermarket is about 16kms away however, all been said it was not an issue to shop and plan your some of your meals 'in house'. Jean was warm and welcoming and was exceptional in providing an excellent induction to a spotless house, explaining all appliances, heating etc. It is a place where you could easily, curl up with a good book on a raining day, or sit and relax and enjoy the wonderful views or venture out. Whilst the village lacks services, the idea of this is appealing for those who wish to enjoy the location in stunning Burgundy and to totally unwind. It was a beautiful ending to our month in rural France! Though those stairs to the top level are indeed steep, the upper bedroom has a comfortable armchair with a foot stool with a sensational view, ideal for those seeking a quiet retreat from the lounge area. We would not hesitate to recommend Jean's property to others and perhaps one day return to stay there again.

Amazing stay at Chateau des Barrigards

5 of 5
The pictures do not lie. There are some beautiful antiques, silk draperies, top of the line appliances, large en suite bathrooms with tub and separate shower. There are two bedrooms on the 2nd floor and one on the 3rd. Each one is very private. We stayed on the 3rd floor. The decorating was perfect, oh that blue and white bathroom, gorgeous, and the view from our windows! Vineyards as far as the eye can see. Great to sit outside at the table for any meal, with wonderful conversation among good friends. Wifi is excellent. Easy to get into Beaune, also a short trip to what became one of the group's (3 couples) favorites, Nuit St George. Great lunch, al fresco, then a wine tasting in a local cellar. Returned another day to the same bistro for lunch again. Arnaud was always available by phone or email, (as was Pascal, the caretaker). He gave us a tour of the winery and we did enjoy the wine. How fabulous to drink the wine where it is produced. We have great memories. We've already recommended it to a friend. Susie L

Escape to the Beautiful Burgundy Countryside

5 of 5
We came on holiday to Burgundy wanting to get away to a village in the French countryside. La Bulniére is a beautiful estate in the charming medieval village of Mont Saint Jean and was just what we were looking for. The location is central to Burgundy and perfect for day trips to Beaune, Dijon, wine tasting, and touring the region. Jean, the owner, met us when we arrived and made sure that we settled in comfortably. He even delivered some special coffee for us when we were running low. On the first floor the home features a full kitchen with a dining area, a large adjacent living area with tv, a formal dining room and a large, sunny laundry room. There is also a powder room toilet in the central hallway under the stairs. The house also has wireless internet throughout which functions very well. The second floor has 2 master bedrooms with ensuite showers and sinks (no toilets), a powder room toilet in the hall, and 2 smaller bedrooms (one twin and one with 2 bunk beds) which share a large full bath (tub and shower) and toilet. We were just two couples, and so had plenty of room and privacy, but this house would be also great for a family with children. There is a wonderful restaurant right next door, "Les Roches" (check out the great abstract expressionist artwork which is for sale), and another fabulous one in nearby Saulieu, the Michelin rated "Bernard Loiseau." We loved using this beautiful home as a base of operations for our trip to Burgundy. We hit most of the highlights of Dijon and Beaune . . . even shopping the Saturday market in Beaune with a chef, and then preparing and enjoying a gourmet meal. It was wonderful to explore all the historic medieval villages and cathedrals and visit wineries, but it was even better to come home to our own little village, open up some great Burgundy wine, and enjoy the view from our grand estate! I highly recommend this beautiful property.
