Loved North Captiva!!

4 of 5
Let me first state that North Captiva is not for everyone but my wife and I absolutely loved it. There is very little in the way of restaurants or nightlife of any sort which is fine with us. Everyone drives around blissed out in their little golf carts like they all took happy pills. This cottage is more than enough space for a couple or small family and we would not hesitate to rent it again. A few things need to be pointed out however. 1 You are not alone in this property. There is a small apartment in the lower level that we did not know was occupied until later our first day. The renter is a service person for the club and very personable and was a very quiet and good neighbor, but be aware he is there. 2 Although the listing says there is a grill, it is marginal at best. On vacations, I do a lot of grilling and a grill is important to me. The first few nights we had a very old Weber with rusted out grates but it was serviceable. There is also a non-functioning gas grill and a smoker. Unfortunately, the Weber disappeared at some point and the grill left was one of a very poor design. Barely usable. 3 We did find bicycles with the house but they were in very poor repair. We used the club bicycles and they were fine. The club also provides the hot tub, kayaks, pool etc. They are not at this cottage. Because this was a new rental, there were a few kinks in the process. Although the owner was very available by phone and offered excellent advice about getting to the island, groceries, arrangements for luggage and so forth, we could have used a little better orientation once we got to the island. I feel we fell between the cracks. No problem for us but we have traveled extensively and are used to making our own way. None of these problems were deal breakers and the cottage is cute and renovated. Very comfortable overall but it did not have any internet, (we knew this) and the kitchen looked well equipt until we started to cook in it. It obviously not been used much for actual food prep. And like most of the homes on the island, their is no ocean view. The vegetation is very thick and natural, so mostly what you see from this home is that. That contributes to the lack of sun at the property also. You need to go to the beach to get sun. I just noticed something else; the listing is a two bedroom, not a three like the avatar on this review page states.

Amazing Family Trip, Beautiful Home!

5 of 5
Sarah and Mike's home was beautiful, inside and out. I would recommend this home to anyone without hesitation. We stayed here for a week with our family of 8 adults, 3 children, and a baby. It was perfect. The location of the home is central to restaurants, the Island Club Pools, and a short golf cart ride to the beach. Most days we would wake up, swim in the pool in the backyard, and head to the beach in the afternoon. Sarah and Mike's home is spacious, clean, and everything you see in the pictures. We spent countless hours playing ping pong, swimming, grilling, and touring the island on the golf cart provided. One nice thing about the home is that all of the rooms were on the main level, and the kitchen and family room were on the second level. This was perfect if kids needed to take a rest while the adults enjoyed their time upstairs. Sarah was really great to work with and so helpful during the booking process. We will without a doubt be back again soon! I fully recommend the Cinco De Mayo Home for your next Family Vacation! The Kane Family

Great Vacation Spot

5 of 5
The house was very clean when we arrived. The view from the decks was fantastic. We really enjoyed the heated pool with the wet bar and tv/radio on the porch. We grilled a lot of food with the propane grill. Sarah Rapp was a fantastic manager and gave us all the info on what food to bring and how the whole trip works. The island club amenities were also very nice. We spent some time at the pool bar which also had good food. We rented a boat for a day from Boats & Fun on the island which was awesome. The stat park to the north was nice and the food at Cabbage Key was fantastic. We had 4 adults and 3 kids at the property and the size was very comfortable. We would recommend this to any family who wants a memorable vacation spot.
