After a very stressful year that saw four deaths in our immediate families, my husband, his sister and her husband needed time away to mourn, regroup and focus on living. This home on a secluded beach proved to be just what we all needed.
The condo itself is wonderful. It’s spacious with its four bedrooms and three baths. Two of the bedrooms face the ocean and the surf can lull you to sleep at night. There’s also a lot of communal living space so if more than one family is sharing, they can have their own space without intruding on others. The kitchen is well equipped so you can make your own meals, or just a sandwich. I especially liked having the washer and dryer so I could keep up with the laundry and not have to spend precious time doing it when I returned home.
Because it’s located in a nature preserve, you don’t have tourists crowding the beach–which is literally just a few yards away. All week we only saw maybe 15 people walking the beach.
What we did see, however, was nature in all her glory. Sea turtles nesting were evident every day. An osprey lived in the scrub beside us. We saw many fish–including a few small sharks and jellyfish. Best of all, we were surprised one day by a manatee who swam with us for a while. Shell hunters will be delighted at the variety that washes ashore. Sunrises and moon rises were spectacular and we could watch both from the long balcony that overlooks the beach.
If you’ve done enough beach time, or it rains, the condo has Roku for streaming movies, DVDs for watching (or bring your own) and there’s a good selection of books and magazines for reading.
The condo also has an elevator which makes it nice for loading and unloading your luggage and goods for the week or month.
The property is only 1.5 miles from a grocery story. There are a few restaurants close by, but the majority are located a short 5-8 miles away and that’s where you also find shopping and entertainment.
Downfalls to this property are few. Parking can be iffy if you have more than one vehicle. While there is Wi-Fi, there is no network TV on Roku, which caused some concern for football lovers in our party.
Overall, this is THE place to get away and enjoy life at your own pace.
