ADVENTURE, RELAXATION OR BOTH

5 of 5
Yours is the choice at this beautiful haven on the bay. Centrally located, Marathon is the best spot in the keys. This house is right in the middle yet offers seclusion a gorgeous view. Fun abounded for all 11 members of my family. We practiced our snorkeling skills in the lagoon, swam in the lagoon, kayaked all over the bay (even out to the island), fished from the dock, and had fun just watching the wildlife. The younger kids even practiced their kayaking skills in the lagoon and I saw signs of a soccer tournament in the cul-de-sac. The water is crystal clear in the bay and if you watch closely at sunset on the dock you’ll see lights in the water from the jelly fish. We snorkeled with Hall’s Dive Shop (best in the keys), boated around Islamarada, checked out the local beaches, found my sister’s life calling at the Turtle Hospital, visited Key West, walked the 7 mile bridge and enjoyed lots of seafood. Burdines has the best seafood and Keys Fisheries has the best Key Lime pie. Pictures do not do the house or property justice. Lynne and Mark were awesome to rent from and had the deposit back to me within the week.

EXCEEDED EXPECTATION- CAN'T SAY ENOUGH!

5 of 5
To qualify my review- Im picky, to a fault, & rarely do experiences meet expectation let alone exceed them. The home, the area, the homeowners were simply amazing. I'll start with the home- Ive learned that with VRBO & like companies have some homeowners that will overstate their property, location & oversell with misleading text & pictures. I found this out resulting from a less than ideal experience with a vacation home we rented. As a result, I've made it a practice to contact the homeowner before booking. The communication was great email and phone calls. I asked about the pool, the landing/dock area and proximity to the beach. We have 3 kids ages 5,7,9 so the safety, pool size and beach proximity were essential. Over the course of the calls we started a dialog that made me feel like I was family! Their home did not at all feel like a vacation rental. Perfectly equipped kitchen, washer dryer, furniture, electronics (tv, sate, wifi, dvd), beds, bedding etc. The views are amazing, we saw dolphin daily & a manatee + had coffee each am starring out into the atlantic over crazy blue/green waters. Pool is perfectly sized as is the patio area. There is an amazing tree that must have a nickname b/c it's such an iconic, beautiful part of the outdoor area. As far as the beaches & location, if you know the keys then you know marathon is ideal. Went to Key west for the day (hour drive) & we went to Bahia Honda (state park/beaches) for the day- (10-15 minutes). Key west with a family is fun to visit but not to stay. The beaches & some of the scene can be less than desirable for kids or teens in key west. Bahia Honda was outstanding & after traveling much of the caribbean I can speak with a little bit of experience. Stay away from the designated beach area & get lost on the less traveled beaches, you won't regret it. Didn't make it to Sombrero beach which is a 5min drive & the local favorite. Local eateries were great & reasonably priced. We ate at the stuffed pig (don't be fooled by the name) which was freaking awesome, the sunset grill- decent food, great location & atmosphere. hogfish grill- really not worth the drive but great food & service. Conch Republic in Key West- overall was our fav for dinner & The Stuffed Pig was our fav for breakfast/lunch. The food quality, variety, prep, portions & service were all impeccable! Can't say enough about this home, the area & the homeowner. We loved the home, Marathon & are already making plans to return!

THE HIGHLIGHT OF OUR VACATION

5 of 5
This was our first time to visit the Keys and it was our first VRBO. The home exceeded expectations on all fronts. We took four teenage boys to the Keys for the week. The way the house is laid out, it provided plenty of personal space for everyone. The view is truly spectacular from each level of the home. Everything was very clean, beds were comfortable, the kitchen was ideal and well equipped for that size group and everything was impeccably maintained. The elevator was a great addition if you don't like the exercise that stairs have to offer. Some things we did during the trip: two snorkel trips (Spirit and Bahia Honda State Park - both were excellent), rented bikes from Wheels to Go (they deliver and pick up) - would recommend taking a left out of the gated community and riding through the City of Key Colony, went on two charter fishing trips, one trip yielded two very large Mahi Mahi and some Black Fin tuna, we took it to a restaurant and they cooked our catch, the guys also enjoyed the cable wake boarding park even though three of the four had not wake boarded before, we grilled out on the nice grill provided with the home and enjoyed the private hot tub and community pool overlooking the open water. The guys enjoyed sunning on the upper deck. The downstairs fridge and freezer really came in handy. If you are into boating, I would highly recommend bringing or renting a boat for the week. The home offers a great convenient place to dock a boat within steps of the house. We will definitely do this next time. Bring some snorkeling gear. You can snorkel right off the dock. The water was very clear. Larry was great to work with and we would rent from him again on our next trip to Marathon. The home is also conveniently located within 3 miles of a Publix. As the Mom in the group, I spent a lot of time there.
