Best vacation in Florida paradise! Private home, ocean, beach, pier, boat, woods... Remote island!!!

Meeting owners: First I want to tell this is my first time in south Florida. I visit Florida twice every year but always north. This is first time we went south. I not sure if I must make review because it will make me competitors for my next visits there and will be harder find open days, but experience what I have I must share. We meat best people there, Ahmed and Kathy - owners of this beautiful house! Very nice people, very helpful and friendly. They take care of us even before we get there with so much information, directions, phone calls, etc. I felt like special guest in 5 star resort. Our adventure started even before we met house owners because place where we met was very nice restaurant, right on bay channel with very delicious food, cold beer and wine. Very nice after almost 18 hours in a car. Owner of restaurant and all people who work there knows Ahmed and Kathy and will take care of you as special guests! Also owner of restaurant not ordinary person, she is famous. Trip to Keewaydin island: I was very surprised when 3 boats meet us and people loaded all our baggage and stuff. They took everything on island in safe condition. When we get on island everything was unloaded and ready. Even my 14' ocean kayak was delivered there. You will have very nice trip to island looking on millions $ property, boats and beautiful bay. Owners will introduce you everything including: maps, rules, directions, tips, etc. Meeting Yellowbird: I rent property in Florida almost twice every year and owners always say they have everything for leaving. This time was same thing, but difference they do mean EVERYTHING! From batteries, emergency water, bugs sprays, flash lights, garbage bags and towels to many umbrellas, chairs, water toys, kayaks, stand up boards, golf cart, grills, snorkeling equipment, fishing gear. You need only drinks and food, they provide everything you can imaging! Vacation: I have only about 3000 characters to write review, it is nothing to describe Yellowbird, you can write book about it. I wish I can upload my pictures. We catch so much fish from Snook and Grooper to Jack and sharks, right from house pier, met dozens different animals on island, swim, have fun and relax. And all on private island, when you on beach no one around miles away, everything yours! We have 7 people in house but it can hold much more. 4 private bedrooms and about 7 toilets in a house. If you looking for own private house and beach - this is all you need!

An Annual Affair

5 of 5
This was our third summer holiday at the house and once again- it didn't fail! We were two families with four boys between the ages of 3 and 8 and it proved to be a perfect holiday setting that kept everything busy happy and well fed! Espen and his team are always amazing at responding to any questions or concerns and the house is so well maintained it really makes the stay even more worth it. Beds are ridiculously comfortable, the house is super clean (I am a total OCD clean freak and won't step foot into a hotel that's less than 4 stars to be shamefully honest) and well equipped and the fact that the house stays cool despite being off the grid is a relief after a full day of sunning and swimming in the bath-warm ocean water. The dads were happy fishing from the beach and bay, us moms were thrilled to let the kids run about carefree and the boys were in total heaven chasing gopher tortoises, digging for sand fleas, paddle boarding and of course, watching cartoons on the big screen tv at night. We all enjoyed amazing gourmet cooked meals in the huge screened porch in the company of fiery sunsets, grazing deer and wild boars. We also spent a few days fishing out in the Gulf for bonnet head sharks, mackerel, snook, lady fish and jacks while enjoying the very regular dolphin sightings along the way. It truly is always a pleasure to come to Keewaydin and we definitely plan to come back again and again as long as Espen let's us!! Haha. Although we enjoy our life on the Atlantic coasts of Florida, thank you Espen again for creating such a unique one of a kind Gulf coast Florida experience for us. See you again soon!

An adventure in paradise

5 of 5
We traveled to this home with our 3 teenage children. Everyone had a great time! Both the owner (Pierre) and the property manager (Freddy) were patient in answering my questions before booking and arrival. (For example, I was concerned about drinking water- Freddy assured me that there was a bottled water cooler to provide clean and clear water for drinking.) The home was clean and comfortable-just as pictured in the many photos above. Being off the grid, we knew that we'd be conserving the a/c usage during the day. This was the biggest challenge for our family. We didn't want to over-use the generator, and were very hot and muggy when we'd try to get a break from the sun in the afternoon. A small price to pay for the experiences we had when on island. The use of the kayak and SUP, in addition to the fishing poles and supplies were what really put this vacation over the top. We spent time every day fishing-from the beach, dock, and even from the kayak in the mangroves across the channel. The poles and tackle provided were a good start, but visitors should plan to bring additional hooks, bait (frozen shrimp, cast net, etc), and lures. During our stay we caught pompano, snook, snapper, Jack Crevale and many catfish... also, a bonnet head shark, horseshoe crabs, starfish, and a sea hare. We did not rent a boat for our stay, but probably would if we return. There is a lot of wildlife on the island- turning this vacation into an adventure! We saw dolphin, manatee, wild pigs, gopher tortoises, snakes, iguanas and deer nearly every day. If we go back again, we will probably bring thundersticks to scare away the hogs when encountered on the trail. We didn't have any problems with them, but I was a bit nervous. This island was nearly deserted. We only saw a few other people on the beach during our entire stay. It really added to the feeling of being away from it all. The water was calm for most days during our stay, but really kicked up for a few days near the end of the week- the kids really enjoyed the crashing waves. Shelling was good. The water went from clear(ish) to murky depending on the waves and the sun. No complaints! One last thing a visitor should know about is the bugs. This is S. FL and the insects are everywhere. We were able to minimize bites with skin-so-soft bug spray(avon)- which is the best for the no-see-ums. With spray on, we weren't too bothered at all.
