Terrific Beachfront Condo for Family Vacation

5 of 5
Three generations of our family stayed in this beautiful condo for a week in April. The pictures do not do it justice- the living room has been updated and everything was clean, fresh, and pretty, with shabby chic decor. The location is perfect ~ right on a wide sandy beach. There is a fantastic sunset view from the screened porch and living room. From the dining room bay window, you can see the beach to the south. We rented a 6-person golf cart and our teenagers loved the freedom of cruising into town on cart paths to buy ice cream or shop for souvenirs, to see the lighthouse or snack at a beachfront restaurant. (Note: Carts can be rented from several places on-island, but we rented off-island from Thoroughgood because they allow 15 year olds to drive. The company delivered and picked up the battery-powered cart. During popular weeks, it is best to arrange for cart rental in advance: www.tgcarts.com). It was lovely to stay someplace where it is safe for older kids to explore on their own. This corner condo is located in a three-unit beach cottage on stilts, with parking underneath. Older or disabled folks might find the entry steps daunting, but once inside the condo there is a bedroom on the main floor. We arranged the twin beds in that room as a king for the grandparents. A full bath on the first floor is convenient. The compact kitchen contains everything you need to cook all your meals ~ though that would be a shame since there are many good restaurants on the island. (We especially enjoyed the Loose Caboose, PJs, Eagle Grille, and the Temp). A small charcoal grill was handy for cooking out at the condo~ and there are also grills at the park. Upstairs, a bedroom with single beds worked great for the kids and has its own ensuite bathroom with small shower. It was wonderful to have a washer and dryer upstairs! The master suite is very spacious and light, with a king bed, a great beach view from the sitting area, and an ensuite bathroom featuring his and hers sinks and a huge tub/shower. A lovely shaded pool was never crowded. The condo has a trunk full of rec equipment including tennis racquets and a beach umbrella, but bring your own pool floats and beach chairs, if desired. The big lighthouse museum was worth visiting. The management office was helpful. And the delightful owner's suggestions about activities, restaurants, and island news were perfect, as were his responses to our questions. We would love to stay there again!!
