Very nice Destin condo

5 of 5
This was our first year visiting Destin. Always avoided it because of fear of cooler weather this far north in Florida. However, we were blessed with very nice temperatures. Better yet was this condo. Given I rented this by chance on VRBO (based on the pictures and previous renters comments) I was crossing my fingers when we pulled in to the parking lot. The condo was very clean and all the furnishings were well appointed and in very good shape. The kitchen is incredibly well appointed and we didn't need to purchase anything other than groceries. The view is incredible (totally unobstucted) and we could even watch our kids play on the beach from our balcony. The pool was a great change of pace as well. We even used the outdoor grills to cook out and eat pool side one evening. We also loved that the facility was pet friendly as we brought our small dog. I appreciated Margie's quick response one afternoon when the pool doors were locked. She made a call and someone responded in about 15 minutes. My 75 year old mother and 79 year old father joined us and they loved this property as well. To be balanced let me share a few MINOR downsides. Upon arrival you will have to memorize 3 different codes for doors (parking lot gate, your condo door, and the exercise room). One of the throw pillows on the love seat was torn open but turned upside down from the cleaning crew. The couches are off white and starting to show some wear. Pets are not allowed by the pool or on the beach (for non-permit holding full time owners/residents). We also wanted to have a beach bonefire one evening but discovered you needed to get a permit ($50) from the local fire department and then had to purchase a steel drum (over $100) to hold the wood and ashes. We passed given the cost and hassle factor. To be fair, multiple beach bonefires could possibly ruin the impeccible beach which was spotless. We loved having an unbrella and 2 chairs provided to us but given we had 6 in our condo we had to pack our own chairs and umbrella as well. This wasn't the fault of anyone but we did have to put up with some serious college spring break noise (and excessive drinking) across the street in 2 condos on the beach directly in front of our unit (to be expected this time of year). All and all I would rate this an 8.5 out of 10 and would definitely rent it again if given the chance.

Beautiful Condo!

5 of 5
To start, I loved the sitting on the balcony and looking at the view was almost as great as the beach experience. Not only was the beach beautiful, but the beach service guy was friendly and went out of his way to help us out. Also the amenities, of staying in the condo including the pools and hot tub were clean and the people there were friendly. Dennis was also there to make sure we had the best time that we could have, helping us with any requests we had. The condo came fully stocked with plates, pots, pans, and silverware which made living quite easy.

Perfect spring break

5 of 5
Stayed here with my family during our Spring Break in March 2015. This condo was clean and well furnished and the complex is perfect for families. On the grounds there are multiple pools including a lazy river with innertubes that the girls loved even though it was cold. The smaller pools are heated by the lazy river and big pool in the other complex are not. The Destin West complex is in a perfect location. It is at the very end of the developed part of Okaloosa Island which means if you walk west on the beach you pass by lots of other hotels and condos but to the east you have miles of empty seashore and dunes to explore that is part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. We normally stay in Destin Proper but this was just as good if not better. Fort Walton Beach is more of a proper beach town with nice shops and the beaches here are much less crowded than the center of Destin. If you want the spring break crowds go to Destin. If you want a pleasant family vacation come here. The restaurants in Destin are only 5-10 minutes away across the bridge.
