50th Wedding Celebration with family

5 of 5
We recently spent two fabulous weeks at this Hideaway Retreat property. Property description says it all! At one point we had a total of twelve enjoying the residence. It has plenty of space for everyone with spacious bedrooms and more than adequate bathrooms. Temps were in mid to high 80's with only a brief shower on the mainland one PM. Property has two large outside decks; one on second level. From these areas we enjoyed refreshments while watching the sunsets. Plenty of tables and chairs provided. We could enjoy beautiful scenery and wildlife while preparing meals in the kitchen or on the deck. Grandkids played in screened in porch after enjoying the water. Also had our Easter meal together on the porch while enjoying the great weather. Beach is only steps away with only a few people accessing it as they search for shells or sharks teeth. Friendly neighbors also stop to share their tips. During our visit we had the requisite visits by Henry the heron, along with a bald eagle, snowy egrets, pelicans, cormorants, etc. We had a glorious time with our family since we do not have the opportunity to vacation with everyone at the same time. Also we found many sharks teeth right on the property. One Englewood resident shared with us the fact that he had found a 3 1/2 tooth (Megladon) right down the beach a year or so ago. During our stay we also traveled to Busch Gardens. Venice, Boca Grande, and Nokomis Groves for their famous ice cream. All in all, everyone enjoyed our stay on Manasota Key, a classic example of "old" Florida. Limited beach access, canopied covered roadway, no commercial properties, except for two small "grandfathered" resorts a mile away. Thanks to the Mackes family for sharing their residence along with their welcoming gift and to Col. "Mac" Mac Farland for his attention to the property.

Nice cozy place

4 of 5
Very nice and clean and close to the beach. The second night we did see some small ants on the counter. I let Doris know and she was right on taking care of it.

Fun family time for everyone!

4 of 5
From the moment we walked through the door, we were mesmerized by the aqua ocean, which is just steps from the back door and can be seen from everywhere in the house. The home was excellent for me, my husband, my disabled father, and our two teenage sons. THE RIVER: This property is so unique because it's "ocean to river", which really appealed to my family because my two teenage sons love to fish. They used the kayak on property, and we also brought our paddle boards, and we were on that river every day. THE OCEAN: it was a beautiful aqua blue every day, and to be able to walk out the back door just a few steps and enjoy the ocean, the view, the breeze, was so relaxing. Mr. Morris kindly let us bring our dog, and he had the week of his life, romping around on Manasota Key beach! And searching for prehistoric sharks teeth right on the beach was an added bonus of fun! THE HOUSE: The great room and kitchen are so spacious. Yes, the house is a little dated, but everything was clean and comfortable, and the house has everything you could think of, from Tupperware to laundry detergent, and every outdoor toy you'd need, like chairs, kayak, boogie boards, etc. My dad is disabled and he got around great. It was a great week and just the relaxing family time we needed.
