We stayed November 2nd through the 10th 2014. Initially, there were problems with the room we were issued at check in. For whatever reason, we were first given a unit that was not nearly up to par with the pictures of what we knew we paid for. According to Westlake, there was nothing they could do except for let us pay more money for an upgrade, unless the owner of the unit would authorize a swap. I must say that things finally got resolved when the owner of the unit (Tony Mai) personally returned our very late call to him - between 10 and 11 p.m. (due to our late arrival) and sorted everything out with management. Problem solved, and we were not charged anything above what we already paid, plus we were given all the amenities of an owner, including free wifi (otherwise $10 a day at this place) and an array of other things we didn’t even use due to our busy vacation schedule.
We enjoyed a HUGE jacuzzi tub surrounded by pillars in the master bed room, which was exactly as pictured here on the website.
The patio was entirely screened in, and that did an excellent job of keeping gnats and mosquitos away, even though we were so close to the water.
Our kitchen was very clean, as well as all of the appliances. If you miss maid service, or hang the “do not disturb” sign out front like we did, there will be a blue bin full of fresh towels left outside for you in the morning.
This honest review gets 5 stars from us because at the end of the day we ended up getting what we paid for. The owner of the unit stepped up and took care of us. We could not ask for more than that. This five star review does not reflect Westlake Gates, as an entity; it is solely based on Mr. Tony Mai doing the right thing and giving us the (very nice) unit that we booked.
Word of advice: skip the “free” breakfast or “discount” tickets that will be offered to you by Westlake. This is not something associated with your reservations or anything that you are obligated to participate in. It’s a time share pitch, which you do not have to go to if you don’t want to.
We suggest that you just go directly to your room to unwind and enjoy the clean and pleasant condo provided by this owner, Mr. Tony Mai, and take advantage of the many amenities that this place has to offer.
