I have been coming to Clearwater Beach for years and have always stayed at the pricey hotels right on the beach or at the comfortable cottages just off the beach. This time I decided to give a beach motel a try. The La Sal Suites was a pleasant surprise. A bit tough on the eyes as you pull up. But I am told they are closing for 2 months this fall to renovate the outside. My friend and I were in room 201. Cute décor, clean, just as depicted in the pictures. Small comfortable sitting room, updated kitchen, 2 bedrooms, one with a king bed and the other with 2 twin beds. Bath was also updated. I loved having a washer and dryer in our room. The big draw is the beach which is literally a 30 second walk from your front door. I cannot say enough about this beach. Just beautiful. We also enjoyed the small pool. It was relaxing and refreshing after a day at the beach. Everything you need is within walking distance of the room. We didn't move our car once while we were there. Frenchy's and Palm Pavillion are both steps away on the beach for a few drinks, some live music or a bite to eat. Pier 60 is a quick 7 minute walk. The negatives? The king bed was very uncomfortable. Time to replace that mattress! And if you are a light sleeper, the street noise during the night and early morning can be difficult. I slept poorly. I was told that new windows and soundproofing will be part of the renovations. If that is the case, I will definitely return to the La Sal Suites.
