Just nine months ago, we rented the Cedar House for a staff/volunteer training retreat. When it came time for our next event, we all agreed immediately: we wanted to go back! The Cedar House was so perfect for our last event that we did not even consider other accommodations.
This time our agenda was unique, with surprise activities for the group which would have been difficult, if not impossible, to pull off in a different environment. We are a nonprofit organization which helps parents of children with disabilities and our staff and volunteers are a passionate and dedicated group who often work tirelessly to help others while neglecting their own needs. So the theme for this retreat was Stress Management! We had "de-stressing stations" positioned throughout the house so that participants could try different activities and techniques (crossword puzzles in the front entryway, a reading corner in the sunroom, an arts-and-crafts table in the parlor, a laughter station (don't ask! lol) near the pool table, and so on. We even set up a tent in the back yard, complete with comfy bean-bag chairs for a relaxing aromatherapy experience.
Then - is this cool or what? - we also scheduled activities for the brave to try, utilizing the living room area at the "cottage" for an energizing zumba demonstration, an afternoon of back & neck massages, and a tai chi / meditation demonstration by a local tai chi master. In-between all these great stress-relieving activities, we had serious training time with research-based, proven tips and techniques and opportunities for group activities to apply the learned strategies to the most difficult challenges we face as we carry out the work that we do.
Again, we utilized the big dining room area as a training room and ate our meals in the sunroom. We felt right at home, knowing where everything was in the two kitchens and in the butler's pantry hallway. Everything we needed was at our disposal, every room was spotlessly clean, and Betsy and Bob could not have been more welcoming or responsive to our needs.
We love Cedar House and would recommend it as a venue for just about any event. Party, reunion, wedding, or corporate retreat, it just doesn't get any better than this.
