Great place for large/extended families

4 of 5
My family went to Captiva for Thanksgiving and had a great time. We rented both the main and guest house - 3 adults and 2 kids in the main house, and 2 adults in the guest house. Both were clean, comfortable, and had amazing views of the ocean. We had everything we could have needed for cooking Thanksgiving dinner, and had a wonderful time in the ocean (a little chilly) and the pool (great because it was heated :) The properties are located just over the bridge to Captiva, about a 20 minute drive once you cross onto Sanibel (Depending on traffic) which was great - not too far, but far enough that we didn't get much traffic. We were also close to many great Captiva restaurants (Mucky Duck, Bubble Room, etc). All in all, a great place to spend some QT with the family. Ella (the contact for the rental) was available and helpful (we had an issue with the cable - turned out to be our fault, but she was very responsive and assisted us in figuring out and fixing the problem). I would have rated our stay 5 stars except for the handing of our deposit... We placed a several hundred dollar deposit for the two houses, paid to hold them and as a security/damage deposit - after our stay, we inquired about the deposits and were told it would be 4-6 weeks due to the cycle of the phone bill and the owner wanting to make sure there weren't long distance charges. After 6 weeks we inquired again and were told that there had been some personal issues for the owner which had delayed our deposit return (seems a little bit of a stretch - how much time does it take to write a check and put it in the mail?) - we finally received our money back January 27th, a full 8 weeks after we checked out. I understand the need to hold a deposit until the rental property is checked out, but that seemed like an excessively long time to hold a several hundred dollar deposit. We did receive the full amount back, but it took way too long in my opinion. In this day and age, I would rather not have long distance available (everyone uses cell phones anyway) and get my deposit back in 2-4 weeks. Other than this little complaint, everything else was perfect!!!
