Paradise in the Keys

5 of 5
We arrived here to celebrate the holidays and our 50th wedding anniversary. The location is perfect--far enough from the hustling crowds and close enough to the Winn Dixie, two miles north, when you are out of milk. The owners, Nancy and Stephen, are always available by phone, text, and/or email to answer any questions. Fishing, boating, and mornings, afternoons, and evenings on the screened porch (we ate most of our meals there) add up to a wonderful, relaxing holiday. We highly recommend this Big Torch Key house in the wildlife refuge...a refuge for us, too! Jodie, our border collie, spent most of her time on the boat and the screened porch, watching the canal. Incredible place! We hate leaving, but we plan to return next year. Happy holiday! Thank you, Nancy and Stephen, for sharing with us your little bit of Paradise in the Keys!

Big Torch Key Vacation Adventure

5 of 5
I arrived to a beautiful home on a large property. The home is about 3 miles in from the main highway. The location is great because you do not have the vehicle traffic or noise. There is alot of vegetation in the area. The home is on the second floor. The lower floor has a walk through area with a bait freezer and a place to put your beach stuff. The second floor has the living area. The kitchen is modern with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. There is a washer and dryer and a livingroom that looks out to the ocean. My favorite area was the screened large balcony. The balcony is nicely furnisher with lots of comfortable seating with a table and chairs also. The upper level has a another patio area that has a barbecue. The beach / dock area is AMAZING. We drove to Marathon to two sandy beaches and returned to use the area behind the house. The area close to shore has a few rocks but nothing major. The swimming and snorkling is amazing. There are fish, crabs, and lobsters everywhere. The water clarity is great. We saw a nurse shark, horseshoe crabs and sting rays. The fishing from the dock is good. You are a short 28 mile drive to key west. The sunset views are great and since there are no city lights close by the view of the stars are great. The house is very well maintained and in an area that you would never have know existed when driving on the main highway. Communication with the onwers agent was very good and helpful. I have rented vacation homes in many states and by far, Fretz House has given us one of the best vacations. You are close enough to town and Key west to just drive in for dinner. This will be a vacation that we will remember for a long time. William V. - Castaic, California
