LOVELY COTTAGE IN PEACEFUL SETTING

5 of 5
This lovely cottage, located just outside the small, picturesque village of Tremolat, is an ideal base to explore this part of the rich and historic Dordogne region. We were a group of 6--mom, dad, 2 kids (14 and 5), and 2 grandparents--who stayed for a week at the end of June 2014. The house with its many bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms and numerous common areas, comfortably accommodated our group with space to be together and apart. The pool, with its views over the adjacent walnut orchards, was a lovely place to swim and relax after a day of sightseeing. Our kids absolutely loved the pool and spent every afternoon in the water. There are too many things in the region to see and do to list them all. Suffice to say, if you stay here you will be as busy as you want to be and cannot possibly run out of things to do and see (we particularly enjoyed the prehistoric sites around Les Eyzies, Chateau Castelnaud and the market in Sarlat as well as a few markets in some of the smaller towns). Upon arrival at the cottage, we were greeted by the property manager, Simon, who helpfully provided a tour of the clean and well-kept property and grounds and showed us the location of key items. Simon was easily reached during our stay and happily accommodated our requests. Linens, including sheets, duvets, pillows and towels, were all very clean and to a high standard. The kitchen was well-stocked with pots, pans, plates and glasses for a group. It is very helpful to have a car to explore the area, although there is branch line train service to Tremolat which is within walking distance of the cottage. In addition to the train station, Tremolat has a number of amenities for such a small town--patisserie, market day, Relais & Chateaux restaurant, casual pizzeria and historic church--which complement the amenities of the cottage. At the time of our stay, only the upstairs (master) bedroom had air conditioning, but the thick stone walls of the house keep the lower level of the house very cool and the 2 downstairs bedrooms remained quite cool and comfortable for sleeping with just fans (despite experiencing temps around 85+ F/25+ C for several days/early evenings during our stay, which may be unusual). Overall, the property is well-set up and supplied and it was easy to connect and work with both the owner (Karen) and property manager (Simon) regarding our stay. We would love to return if our travels bring us to this part of the world again!

LOVELY HOUSE IN BEAUTIFUL LOIRE VALLEY.

5 of 5
Dido to all the other 5 star reviews here. Frederique is a great Host. As she said, she was there when we needed her and not there when we did not need her. The house is as beautiful as it looks in the pictures. It was very clean and comfortable. My ten-year-old daughter enjoyed the pool and the huge yard where she could practice her soccer skills. The kitchen was well stocked with all kinds of goodies, which showed the generosity of our hosts. As for the location, it was perfect for our stay in Loire Valley. Close to many Chateauxs and to Paris as well. The bicycle ride from Blois to Chambord, despite my daughter's crash and getting lost on the way back was one our most memorable activities in the Loire Valley. I am an artisan baker. Frederique went out of her way to arrange a meeting with the famous local artisan baker Christophe Maureille. I found Mr. Maureille and his wife to be very sweet and down to earth people. Daily trips to Maison Maureille are a must! Also try La Parenthèse or Les Toques in Orleans for an excellent dinner. I highly recommend ' Le Pot Vert ' for your Loire Valley vacation.

PERFECT

5 of 5
We (two adults and two children) stayed 6 wonderful days in the house, and couldn’t have had a better time. Cottage “HOF” is fantastic! It is very architectural and harmonises well with the surroundings. The house is spacious with lots of windows looking out into the landscape, clean and well-equipped. It had everything we needed from a well-stocked kitchen to personal needs like soap and shampoo. It was very comfortable and furnished with style. After a day out we have enjoyed to sit in the hot tub or to relax on the veranda to the full. Cottage “HOF” is very conveniently located and a perfect “home base”. Situated near route 1 it is an easy drive to everywhere you want to go. From Borgarnes in the West to Jökulsárlón in the Southeast and everywhere in between (e.g. Thingvellir, Gullfoss, Skogar). The town Selfoss with all the amenities is easy to get to and Reykjavík is only 1 hour drive away. The owner, Inga, was incredibly kind. She made the transaction easy and was always to reach for any questions we had. She personally welcomed us at Cottage “HOF”. We didn’t wanted to leave. We have only been home for a couple days and miss it already! Thank you, Inga, for everything! We will be back!
