What a great place to relax with friends & family!

4 of 5
Villa Soraya was much nicer than we anticipated as the website pictures didn't do it justice. From the moment we began the rental process until we left, Yocasty and Yamiris were extremely helpful. Our emails were answered promptly, we were treated kindly and professionally, we were helped to get familiar with the town, and then helped to get settled in. Although we didn't need much during our stay, they made themselves available to help us out. The houses were very clean and comfortable, with everything we needed to feel at home. The housekeeper was friendly, helpful, and thorough – a real pleasure to have during our stay. The view from the house is spectacular; the surroundings so beautiful and peaceful. Eating outside on the patio was a treat, whether enjoying the gorgeous gardens and flowers during the day or gazing at the starry heavens at night. We didn't realize that there was no TV when renting the property, but didn't miss it at all. Internet service was a bit spotty at times but that was OK, too. We were there to relax and relax we did! There is so much to do in the area. We spent an afternoon at the beach nearest the house, went on a whale watch (http://www.toursamanawithterry.com), went to Playita Beach, made the trip to Boca del Diablo (not easy to find but worth the trip), and traveled to Rincon Beach twice (since it was so beautiful and so few people there). Enjoyed 2 delicious meals at Rincon Beach (fresh grilled fish w/ Dominican rice & beans) at the little restaurant by the river, to the left when you get to Rincon Beach. Also enjoyed several typical meals from "Restaurante del Abuelo" in Las Galeras. Prices so reasonable and food so good that it didn't pay to cook! The supermarket in Las Galeras is small but had what we needed. We were glad we rented a vehicle since the property is about 3 km from town. The road is quite rough and steep at the end, so a little car might have some trouble. Having our own transportation gave us the freedom we wanted to explore as we wished. The people in the area were so friendly and helpful that we never felt lost or nervous. We would definitely recommend this property to our friends and hope to come back again soon. Thanks to everyone who helped us have one of the best vacations ever.

Beautiful holiday

5 of 5
OK, the house is very nice, gorgeous setting, lots of fruit trees and palms around(we picked some limes from a tree nearby for Cuba Libres). Yocasty is really very very helpful, arranges everything you want and tries to even get you a good deal if you want to take a boat to town, fishing trip, etc. Although the price the locals ask is a bit much. For a 4 hr fishing trip initially we were asked $200, but ended up paying $120. Jerardo, who was taking care of the house and cleaned the pool is the guy to ask to get some fresh seafood and minor supplies(rum... we run out..).We paid about$30 for two nice lobsters and three fresh fish which he cleaned for us. If you don't speak spanish, you might have some problems communicating with locals, but Yocasty is there to help. The beach is very nice, although you gotta be a little careful as the waves are strong and there are some rocks here and there. The best spot is the very far right of the beach(if you're facing the ocean). There's a bit of a break from waves and its private. If you got kids, or not a strong swimmer its the best place to go. Hike to Rincon Beach was nice(Jerardo took us there and then came back to take us back). The restaurant there was just Ok though. Lobster was good, but ocean perch wasn't all that fresh we thought. On the way there you get to see a couple of small beaches, very nice. Now on to other suggestions.. Don't go if you can't enterntain yourself. For us peace and quiet was exactly what we wanted and we'll go back as soon as we can. Bring some CD's and DVD's for evening, they only got a couple in the house and radio doesn't always pick up a station. Expect bugs and mosquitoes, so bring repellant. Bring more cash than you think is absolutely necessary, everything costs quite a bit. Try to learn at least some basics in spanish, it will help. BBQ is not what you have in N. America; you actually have to build a fire.Put EVERYTHING in the fridge, inc. bread, etc. If you don't, microscopic ants get into food. And if its ruined, you can't just run up to a corner store. DO stare at the sky at night:), its unbelievable.. and they got those bugs that glow flying around. You can request for service people to show up every second day; we did as we wanted more privacy. The town of Las Galeras is small.Italian store there is good for sandwich meat, etc. Cabs are VERY expensive. Well, altogether its a great place and my wife and I definetely recommend it.
