As hard as it is to believe, Villa Mango is even nicer than it looks in the photos. It's RIGHT on the most beautiful beach we've ever seen, and entire our stay in Punta Rucia was like a dream. If you're sick of giant resorts or cruises and want a vacation that's truly private, peaceful and unique, this is it.
Between Carl-Philippe, the groundskeeper Alfons, the housekeeper Rafaelina and the boat captain Kleiby, every little thing we wanted was taken care of. We didn't have to lift a finger other than to mix another drink! We spent most of our days lounging in the hammocks or swimming in the crystal clear water, and in the evenings we wandered either to the restaurant next door or into the quiet little town for dinner. A small market down the road had everything we ran out of during the week, as well as locally-grown fruits and vegetables. There is an enormous grill right in the yard, so we grilled fresh-caught Mahi-Mahi two nights of the week, and Rafaelina made us an amazing fish soup with the leftovers the next day. All of the staff and everyone we met in town was incredibly friendly, honest and helpful, and as a result we got a genuine taste of the local Dominican culture that you could NEVER find at a big, walled-in resort.
Having the private boat was also amazing--we went out snorkeling at a stunning coral reef one day, and went out deep-sea fishing another day, all without dealing with any other tourists! There is also a place to rent bikes, 4-wheelers, etc. just down the beach, so we rented a jet ski one day and went cruising up and down the pristine, undeveloped coast. We've never seen anything like it--miles and miles of lush mountains and beaches without a single building to spoil the view.
We truly cannot recommend this spot enough, and we're already making plans to come back. It was the most hassle-free, scenic and refreshing vacation any of us can remember, and an experience nobody's stories can rival. Thank you Carl-Phillipe and Natalie, you made our dreams a reality!
