Georgette, the owner, was very helpful, answering my numerous emails promptly. The apartment is in an excellent location, at the end of Las Ballenas beach in a secure gated community, with beautiful lush gardens.
The apartment is just like the photos, fully equipped, new appliances and beautifully decorated. Luxurious towels in the bathrooms, great shower pressure with lots of hot water. The hot tub is kept impeccably clean by Franco. There is a gas BBQ on the patio. The large pool was not busy when we were there, it’s kept very clean. Daily housekeeping is included but we opted for twice a week, and Yaquira, our housekeeper, even did the laundry we had in the hamper. Internet was intermittent, but this isn’t unique to the apartment. We had the most success with it early morning.
There is a restaurant/beachfront bar called Sol Y Mar a five minute walk away, and you can walk up the beach (and adjacent interlock roadway) where you will pass other restaurants and in 30-40 minutes you are in the main area of Las Terrenas, with many restaurants and shops, including Pueblo de los Pescadores. Right across the street is a Cambio where you can exchange dollars for pesos. There are also two supermarkets, Lindo and Pola about another 15 min walk up the main street.
Driving is not for the faint of heart. With no traffic lights, everything just flows, so go with the flow, don’t hesitate and you’ll be OK. We rented the Polaris RZR (side by side) available through Stephanie, shopped for groceries, and visited Playa Bonita, Playa Coson and Playa Punta Popi. Playa Coson is a must – a pristine beach, big waves, and great local food at Luis’ restaurant (shack) on the beach.
Stephanie, our concierge was excellent, always there for you. We were given a phone to contact her if necessary. She had an early morning appointment away from Las Terrenas when we were leaving, and due to car problems could not make it back in time to say goodbye. She called us to apologize and said that she will see us on the way to the airport – and she did. We said goodbye with hugs like we were saying goodbye to a new friend.
We would definitely return to AquaMare. The service standard from Georgette the owner, to Stephanie and her on-site team was the best – professional and caring. Las Terrenas is a melting pot of French, Italian, Spanish and Dominican people living together. We met other Canadians at our complex who are there for five months…..maybe next time.....
