We offer the following review in order to be fair and provide an accurate assessment of this experience.
First of all, the house and grounds was everything it was described to be in the way of comfort, beauty, location, privacy and security. Sonia, the housekeeper was lovely and very accommodating. She will run errands if needed and cook for you if requested at night. She is a wonderful cook - you will love her meals. This is not part of her regular responsibilities so get an idea from the owner as to what is customary based on the number of times she does this for you. Be advised though to not leave any foods out which aren't sealed since, as with most warm climate locations, there will be an issue with bugs being attracted to them.
Secondly, also be advised that there is a resident dog which will be there during your stay along with a neighboring dog as well. “Blackie” and “Carlito” were very friendly and didn't pose a problem for us but we felt it should be known in case anyone has an issue with dogs such as allergies, etc.
Next, as far as the town of La Terranes, there are many good restaurants to eat in and water sport shops to rent paddleboards, etc. but little else to do in the way of shopping and walking around especially at night outside of the restaurant strip.
Lastly, as far as excursions, we recommend the trip to El Limon to go to the waterfall. It was quite an experience for our family. We learned and saw a lot about the area from the guides who lead the horses. Go early before it gets hot and crowded. Make sure to gain agreement beforehand as to the prices of the trip itself since it varies a lot. The guides will ask repeatedly for tips. Be prepared to negotiate often. If you are looking go fishing we would recommend a regular charter company to hire. The fishing trip that Marco offered wasn’t what we expected in the way of accommodations, participation and price. It was a very small open boat about 12 feet long in which we rode in and watched as they fished. It was also quite expensive for what was given.
In closing, we really enjoyed what this vacation had to offer with few exceptions. We travel extensively as a family and know that you have to expect that everything can’t be perfect when visiting areas you aren't familiar. We definitely feel this vacation was enjoyable, relaxing and educational. Our children were exposed to a world they can learn from and make them appreciate other cultures as well. Thanks, Cyrus
