Great villa, owner and caretaker, nice quiet area, a bit windy during our stay

5 of 5
We arrived on the island at 9:30am due to our inter-island flight from Guadeloupe. We picked up our car and drove to the villa to drop off our luggage. The owner, Christopher and the caretaker, Gwenneth, greeted us. While we waited for the villa to be cleaned we drove around Calibashie to get our bearings and then drove over to Portsmouth for lunch and groceries. On our return to the villa, we were shown where everything was located, given directions about the wifi, gas grill, pool, etc. and we're also given a cell phone to use should we need it while on the island. The villa was sparkling clean and as good, if not better than what the pictures show online. The view is just gorgeous and the master bedroom was larger than expected. The pool is a great plunge pool and was refreshing and cool. The pool itself gets sun from about 8:30 until 1:15. The patio and pool area gets sun until about 3:30. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were skimpy and they did not provide pillow covers for the spare pillows. Since we were only using one bedroom, we borrowed some from another bedroom (pillows thin and skimpy in all bedrooms). The villa has lots of stone and the floors and bathrooms are very nice looking. The gas grill was in excellent shape and worked very well. So many times the grills on the islands are old and rusty and do not cook the food very well, this was not the case here. I was even able to grill some nice BBQ chicken one night for dinner without having anything cook too much or too little. Wifi was strong and we could even connect to DISH back home in the evening to watch a recorded show. The only drawback is that there is no dishwasher. Be sure to save your plastic bags from shopping as you will need them for trash bags. They only provided one trash bag and expect you to use bags from the grocery store (they will provide extras if needed). If you have never stayed on an island in the hills, it may take a bit to get used to the wind. It made for very comfortable days by the pool, but when rain came at night, the winds got stronger and woke us up once or twice. It was also too chilly to enjoy dinner sitting out on the deck by the pool. A couple of locals told us that the stronger winds are not typical for this time of the year. It usually does not get this windy until hurricane season. The wind does keep all of the mosquitos away - so that was a plus. We had no issues with skeeters or any type of insect the entire stay on the island.

Beautiful View

5 of 5
Three of us stayed here the last week of Sept. 2014. The view was spectacular. We really enjoyed the deck and the view. The location was great, close enough to town, for shopping and dinner, but far enough away for the quiet and beauty of the island. We had a fabulous week in Dominica and can't wait to return. The rental looks just like the pictures and met all of our expectations. Mark was helpful in arranging transportation and car rentals even with our travel delays and also was very responsive prior to our booking and during the planning stages.

Hill Top Heaven

5 of 5
We spent 11 days in Dominica as we wanted to split our time between both coasts. For 4 days, we spent our time on the east coast (highly recommend Mermaids Secret in Rosalie) and then had the pleasure of staying at this lovely cottage on the west coast. The photos really do not do the property (nor the surrounding area) justice! The property sits on top of tall hill, over looks the Caribbean Ocean, has pretty mountain views and is surrounded by beautiful landscaping. Rainbows were a common occurence! The inside of the cottage was clean, decorated with modern decor and the bedrooms had very comfortable bedding (the linens were top quality as well). Both bedrooms had entry ways to the outdoor patio/living room which was a great place to sit and enjoy a cocktail under a Dominica rain. The air conditioning was room controllable and worked quite well. I loved the large stone walk in shower and sure appreciated the super hot shower after a long day of hiking. We made good use of the well equipped kitchen and loved the open flow of the living room and kitchen area. My favorie part of the cottage was the semi wrap around porch and deck. It had a covered section with awesome views of the ocean and was a great place to hang out when the rain fell. Our nights were spent on the open deck gazing out at the stars, admiring the moon shining down on the ocean and and laughing at the colorful lights inside the small pool. As much fun as we had during the day hiking the island; we equally enjoyed the evenings spent partying on the deck! The property was very close to a local grocery, just minutes away from downtown, minutes away from an ATM, a short ride from a great little beach and very close to the road whch took you to the east coast. It was centrally located to the northern and southern tip of the island (in other words; a perfect spot!). Luckly, the Owner was the office manager for the best car rental company on the island (Road Runner) and helped us set up rentals for 2 very reliable vehicles. She was very friendly, communicative and made the rental process a very simple one. We are planning a return trip in 2014 and will certainly return back to this property. You will be hard pressed to find a nicer and more cost efficient rental on the west coast!
