We arrived at Casa Sablica to be met with smiles, warm welcomes and a very refreshing cold beverage by both Jan and Marcia! As well as a basket with Curacaoan coffee, sugar and a special koek just for the Dutch in me; along with a few essentials in the fridge we would need for the morning. Their personal touch is something we will always remember! We were then given a great tour of the house and were continually in awe of the amount of space! The screened in porches and decks offer a great place to sit and enjoy every view of the surrounding area and are able to listen to the sounds of the birds which are always singing in the trees. The sunsets a person can see off the upstairs rear deck can be quite breath taking! The pictures of the house, although really great, in our opinion, to see it in person is even better! The house is exceptionally clean and the cleaning staff are both friendly and very personable.
We found this house after quite a bit of research on Curacao rental properties and decided this would be a quiet and restful place for the two of us to spend a week celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary.
The amount of information that Jan and Marcia have compiled in a book for visitors is very thorough and the maps they include were very useful and helpful. Especially for a couple of Western Canadians who don't speak Dutch! (yet!)
We didn't eat at any of the recommended restaurants, only because we wanted to experience as much of the culture as we could. Instead we shopped for groceries at Albert Heijn, a very good store with a very large selection and friendly staff that are willing to help!
Navigating the streets of the island can be a little challenging but with a good map that we purchased at the book store that Jan and Marcia recommended it does make it a little easier. We travelled to Punda for shopping on a few of our days on the island and although we bought our fair share, we found the local markets on the Otrabanda side of the Queen Emma bridge to be a bit less expensive than on the Punda side - just our opinion. We also travelled to the Aloe Vera Plantation and were welcomed by a very kind and humourous guide; and had a most enjoyable tour of the plantation! We also drove to Mt. Christophell National Park and took the driving tour in the car we rented and this is a MUST visit sight!
Overall we went to Curacao to rest and relax and Casa Sablica truly delivered! We will be back and recommend it to all!
