This place is absolutely stunning, and amazingly, even better than its photos! I couldn't wait to wake up each morning, sit out on the terrace sipping my tea, and take in that view of the old town, the islands and the sea. Perfect for a large group or family, the property is spacious inside and out, meaning you still have the option of quiet and solitude even within a large group. The Old Town is just minutes down meandering "street" stairs, so close enough to easily enjoy, but just far away enough to enjoy some peace and tranquility away from the summer crowds. For those who might be worried about the stairs on the way back up, our group included 62 year old grandma, who took the stairs nice and slow, and enjoyed the climb nonetheless.
The owners of the property were wonderful also. They were responsive during the entire booking process and very friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. In addition, they gave us some great tips on local eateries and excursions. They've really thought of everything and this made it very easy to get comfortable very quickly.
As far as recommendations of what to do - the city itself definitely deserves more than the typical one day at port cruise ship stop. We enjoyed just rambling through the streets during late afternoon and evening and soaking in the lively ambience. The owners recommended Taj Mahal Bosnian restaurant, and it did not disappoint. Great grilled meats and bureks. The nearby island of Lokrum, reachable by ferry from the Old Harbour is an easy and beautiful excursion as it is essentially a giant nature park with great viewpoints and plenty of opportunities for swimming and exploring. We also did a fantastic day trip to the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro - the drive there itself affords some spectacular views and Kotor itself is another gem of a historic town. Mostar in Bosnia is also not to be missed, and not too far from that the dervish "tekija" of Blagaj, perched at the foot of towering limestone cliffs and at the source of the turquoise-green waters of the Buna river in Bosnia.
Our only regret was that our stay was far too short - four days only. I can definitely see us going back to this property, and spending a couple of weeks exploring Dubrovnik and surrounding area. This part of the country is so rich in history, culture, nature, and beauty that its easy to see why people fall in love with it and never want to leave!
