Great base to experience the real Costa Rica

5 of 5
The casita was everything advertised and more. The casita itself is very clean, well equipped for an extended stay, private and the views can not be beat. The location from the center of town was just right for me, about a mile and a half. I walked while there, only cabbed, which is very inexpensive, on a few occasions. Pat and John were very accommodating and included me in several of the local gringo activities. When my girlfriend joined me for a week, they were very welcoming of her and we had much fun that week, largely based on Pat and John's recommendations of activities. The weeks I was there solo, I tried, for the most part, to see the town as part of day to day living. The small town feel and friendliness of the local people was just what I was looking for. Learn a little Spanish and the Ticos will bend over backwards to make you feel welcome. Ann and I hired a local tour guide, Walter Ramirez, for a day, touring San Jose, the Museum of Jade and Zoo Ave in Alajuela, all well worth endeavors. The local neighborhood, Barrio Fatima, is pretty quiet, very pretty and if you get off the more traveled road, you'll see a lot of wildlife. Having arrived at the end of the dry season, it was pretty amazing to see everything turn green and come to life, with the brief afternoon showers. Not only would I recommend Casita Limón highly, I hope to return, repeatedly. Thanks John and Pat, for opening p the casita for visitors and making Ann and I feel welcome. I miss being there, already. Haven't seen a single iguana, since returning home.

Wonderful place to Stay!

5 of 5
We really enjoyed our trip to Costa Rica and the Eco Condos at MAE was a great place to stay! The condo was clean, and just the right size for us (2 adults, 2 teenagers). The condo had everything we needed - fridge, glasses, plates, silverware, and even sugar. The pool was really clean and was a great place to cool off after a day exploring. The only thing "negative" I would say was that the hill up to the condos was as steep as the other reviewers have mentioned. By the end of the week, we were all dreading having to walk up the hill back to our unit. One other thing I would mention to the property owners - you should invest in an umbrella for the pool area. There is no shade, and it would be nice to have a place to sit out of the sun.

spacious, modern beach rental

5 of 5
This home makes the perfect headquarters for your stay in this part of CR. We enjoyed the spacious kitchen, gas range, large back deck, giant shower, and the room to spread out. This property would be excellent for a large family. The three bedrooms were sparsely furnished but certainly met our needs. The bathroom is quite large and the walk-in tiled shower was certainly big enough for two. We enjoyed cooking in the enormous kitchen. There were plenty of pots, pans, and cooking implements (though the forks were in short supply - I imagine previous renters had made off with them). We liked spending our evenings on the large back deck enjoying cuba libres and listening to the tranquil night sounds (bring insect repellent). You'll find a grocery two doors down with everything you'd need and a larger Super up the hill across Costanera Sur from the entrance to Dominical. The town itself has great tacos, sushi, an awesome inexpensive soda, shops, surf lessons, your standard pizza place, and anything you might need to enjoy your beach stay. Nothing in town is more than a 5 minute walk. The rocky beach and surf swells were too much for us to bathe at Dominical beach but we took advantage of the short drive to Playa Hermosa several times and enjoyed the fine sand and shady beach there. This home is a perfect launching pad for trips to Manuel Antonio, Parque Marino Ballena, or any of the nearby gorgeous beaches. This rental has no central air conditioning but the fans helped us stay cool at night. The owner of this property was easy and pleasant to work with and their local contact in Dominical was helpful, friendly, and very nearby had we needed him (we didn't have any trouble at all, so we didn't need to reach him). Don't plan to sleep in here - the early sunrise woke us each day. Bring plenty of sunscreen and insect repellent. We bought a cooler and ice at the nearby grocery. The gated parking area in front of the house was a little tough to navigate with two separate parties (one each in the upstairs and downstairs units) but we parked on the street in front of the Blue Shack without incident. (We left the windows partly down and doors unlocked per local advice). The unit was stocked with games and books, a small tv (which we didn't use), and great wifi service. If you are looking for a modern, spacious, no-frills beach pad this is your place. Highly recommended!
