Condo Begonia was the perfect place to stay for our trip to Playa Samara. After being at some other beaches we were pleased to say that Samara, Carrillo, and Guiones were our top three, in that order. Loved that Samara was not terribly touristy, and tourists that were there, were there for the beach and the outdoors, not partying etc. The surfing was perfect for the kids (8 &9) and their first lesson with Choco's Surf school ensured free boards for them the rest of the week. Snorkeling during medium to low tide was good on our end of the beach as well. Begonia was spotless (thanks Xania!) and serene, and the AC was much welcome after hot days on the beach. Great service from Randall the caretaker! He brought us fresh fish and kept the pool clean for our kids who notice every little leaf and bug. He even put up with our terrible Spanish and spoke slowly so we could kind of understand his. We cooked almost very night, inside and out on the bbq, and ate lunch and breakfast in the condo every day. Good coffee pot and blender and big pitchers for chilling water in the fridge were great (tap water is safe and tastes as good as our MT h20). Some bigger roasting pans, a big cutting board, and more spices were the only thing I would wish for the kitchen. Otherwise, it was everything we needed. Also having access to a washer and dryer was crucial with two kids, rainforest mud and beach sand and salt! The beds were adequate, although I felt the master queen was a bit rigid. The kids slept great in the twin beds. AC at night was also a blessing as we were there the hottest part of the year. The kids also loved the "guard dog," and monkeys, lizards and frogs who were our neighbors. I loved the horses on the beach. We also saw a coati drinking out of the neighbor's pool! Thanks Patrick, Laura, Randall and Xania for a great stay!

We loved it/

My wife and I stayed in this lovely condo right in the heart of Samara for the entire month of February. Aside from being excellently appointed and having all that anyone might need for an extended stay, it is within minutes of everything: beach, bank, store, restaurants, etc. Prior to going we were in contact with the owner, Carla, numerous times and she was always gracious, helpful and, more like a close friend or family member than an "owner." Several friends visited for short stays and all were impressed with the condo, the village, and all that it has to offer. Should we choose to return we would definitely wish to stay once again in Carla and Richard's home away from home.

great condo. great beach. great people

we stayed at this wonderful condo with the most amazing views for one week. the property was advertised accurately and held true to its homeaway listing. the local property manager, nick, was reliable and welcoming with great - helpful communication. the walk to the beach was short and yes....hilly. but its costa rica and the condo is specifically-strategically located on the hillside which gives the breath-taking views. we saw the colorful sunsets and amazing light shows with a few evening storms that mother nature brought our way - a clear fresh morning view of samara beach. the pool was clean and not crowded (we only saw a father and his 2 kids one morning the entire week we were there)....also has an amazing view. we love-loved samara....it was a great mix of a beautiful beach and local flare. we enjoyed swimming in the ocean at high and low tide (body surfing and boogie boarding), did a local zipline with ocean views, waterfall hikes-swims 10-20 minutes inland, dinned at local eateries, enjoyed happy hour drinks beachside, and made a few trips to the quieter sister beach called carrillo. and we feel like we just scratched the surface of costa rica. we highly recommend enjoying beachside tacos at lo que hay and stopping in the samara-carrillo info center....talk to chris! he is very nice-helpful and will give you honest and accurate advise/recommends or book tours with no pressure! we enjoyed evening happy hours at gusto with the yummy drinks and inviting ambience (beachside). we had a delicious dinner at casa esmerlada and a flavorful lunch at the natural center. another MUST: cafe rosa which is about 15 mins from samara on the road going to/from the liberia airport (nicoya)....amazing views with delicious fresh farm fish raised by the owner! i would have to disagree with the previous (most recent) review. its not a 5-star all-inclusive type of place or location (samara is a beach town with lots of friendly locals) but i dont think that is what it is advertised as and why we picked this spot specifically. we wanted a true costa rican experience and that is what we got. we are looking forward to returning to costa rica and would (without hesitation) recommend this property and location to friends and family. pura vida!
