The best way to see Costa Rica

5 of 5
My wife and I spent a fabulous week at the Villas Casa Loma. This place has to rank as one of Costa Rica's best kept secrets. Absolutely the best way to see this amazing country. Rent yourself an SUV and come stay here. The grounds and accommodations are unbelievably beautiful and peaceful. Stay here and you're within a few minutes of at least a dozen beaches, each one nicer than the last. You can easily have an entire beach to yourself, especially if you're willing to take a short hike. Plenty of excellent restaurants in the area and no shortage of fascinating things to see/do. The owners, Tom and Igor, know everything you could possibly need to know about what to do, and how best to get there. We had booked 4 days at an all-inclusive resort after our week at the Villas, thinking we'd need a few days of pampering after our week of adventuring on our own. Biggest regret of our lives, we should have stayed where we were! Absolutely the best way to see Costa Rica.

No Place Better!

5 of 5
For my 60th bday I wanted a trip with my children. Seven of us stayed in this magnificent house with spectacular views. All the bedrooms had a view of the ocean. We spent most of our time gathered around the spacious kitchen which opened into a huge family room with a view of gorgeous foliage and the ocean. Mornings were spent on the deck with coffee and often shared with the monkeys, the resident sloth, iguana and a pair of toucans. We spent a couple of afternoons around the beautiful pool. What made this house the best, besides the great layout and tasteful decor, was the staff. Sani, our concierge, was wonderful even before we arrived. He communicated with us by email, answered all our questions, arranged pick up at the airport and tours and excursions. We only had 4 days, but they were the best 4 days we could have ever imagined! Edwin, our driver, was waiting for us at the airport. On our way home he stopped at a fruit stand where the vendors cut fresh fruit for us to taste. Next he stopped at a bridge where we got out and looked down at huge crocodiles! Sani was waiting outside for us. When he opened the door, we all gasped! Not only was this house breathtaking, but the smells from Lily and Rachel's cooking were amazing. After a long day of travel, it was such a treat to have appetizers waiting for us and a dinner that was better than any restaurant we had ever been to. The best part was that we felt like we had walked into a friend's home. Sani, Lily and Rachel were so warm and friendly and made us feel as though they knew us. In the morning we met Juan who comes every day to maintain the pool and the grounds. He always had a smile on his face and pointed out animals to us! Hailen was our housekeeper who kept the place neat and clean. We hardly knew she was there but we'd go looking for her just to say hello! She was sweet and pleasant and even washed our clothes! Casa Alegria is in a great location. We toured a national park with lots of wildlife and a beautiful beach. We went "Canyoning". We walked to the beach and stayed to see the spectacular sunset. The last day, Sani treated us to his own private tour where we hiked to his favorite waterfall and swam in "the pot" and had lunch at a local restaurant that served fresh tilapia caught on site. We ended the trip with another of Lily's fabulous meals. None of us wanted to leave. It was truly a trip of a lifetime.

Perfect Place for an escape from winter

5 of 5
What a great spot. We didn't want to leave! Nansie and Ed the owners are fantastic. We came down for 10 days with a group of friends for a 50th birthday escape. Nansie was great in helping to arrange our transport from airport to the house with the help of Sonia from Uvita travel. The house had everything you need, great kitchen to cook in. No better place to watch the sunset! Pool is amazing, great place to relax, swim up bar is wonderful spot to get out of the sun but stay in the water. Great showers both inside and outside. Plenty of room in the house for 4 couples, each with their own bathrooms. Has satellite Tv but we hardly used it. they have a large selection of DVD's at the house. Location is between Uvita and Dominical, good little grocery stores in both towns, local fish guy just 2 min from bottom of the driveway. 4x4 car rental is a good idea, driveway and getting to other places you will want to go is much easier. Great restaurants in Dominical, neat local places too.(PorQueNo was our favorite) Beaches are great, we did zip line tour and snorkeling tour both were very good. Not hard to get to any activities house is in a great spot. Will definitely return!
