Great house, we loved it!

5 of 5
Our family of 5 spent a week in this great house. We really liked the location. The beach area is just yards from the front door and was nice to walk on. We walked out to Cabuya Island one morning when the tide was low, a great walk. When the tide is out you can walk a long way on the beach in either direction and probably see no one. Be aware that the area off the beach is rocky tidepools and not really suited to swimming. We drove over the shortcut road to Santa Teresa area for swimming. Some fantastic beaches on that side of the point! Tony was the property manager and did a great job getting us what we needed (a blender, some towels, and extra dishes). He and his girlfriend were really a delight to talk to and gave us some great hints about the area. Rio Lajas was just up the road a bit and was amazing! Super clear water with fish and wildlife all around. The water clarity was definitely related to rainfall as on the day we left it had rained hard in the night and the river was like coffee. Good swimming at the river mouth. One of Tony's friends, Matthew, has set up a huge 'hammock' made of fishing net suspended over the back yard. This is really cool, like a hammock for 25 people! It was a blast to climb up into it and lay under the almond tree watching the howler monkeys eat almond fruit right over head! We saw them on 3 different occasions during our stay. The kids had a blast laying in and flopping around in the massive hammock! Another plus was the internet connection with WiFi router. Prior to our stay, hadn't been able to check mail or contact people back home and it was great to have. The road the house is on is pretty rough, especially north. They were working on There are bugs, geckos, and small crabs about, often in the house. They didn't bother us aside from the geckos chattering at night. We chased the crabs out, and lived with the ants and geckos. Don't leave food around the the ants don't bother. We did have a couple raccoons stop by and knock the outside trash cans over 3 times. I would go out and hiss at them and they always ran off and didn't come back again that night. It would be really hard to keep them away permanently. Cabuya is a very small town, just a couple sodas, a bar and two small grocery stores. It had everything we needed and we liked it. We mostly cooked at the house and didn't eat out much. The bakery had a GREAT breakfast and we also got pizzas there on Friday night. Very good! Loved our stay and the house was great!

Secluded setting and abundant nature

5 of 5
During the summer of 2013 my wife and I spent one month at the Newville Pool House and we were delighted when it was available the following January for another visit of ten days. The property is very nicely situated within easy walking distance to the shops, markets and restaurants of Cabuya and yet, since it is very secluded, affords a high level of privacy. The ocean is near enough that it can be heard at night. We enjoyed the richness of nature which surrounded us; a troop of howler monkeys often took up residence in a pochote tree next to the house; agoutis played in the back yard while iguanas fed on fallen hibiscus blossoms; flowers draw a multitude of butterflies and hummingbirds; birdlife is profuse. The house itself is beautifully designed, very light and airy, and a genial place to spend time when we were not out availing ourselves of the region's many natural attractions such as the beaches, the Rio Lajas, the Montezuma Waterfall, the nature reserve of Cabo Blanco, and more. We occasionally dined out at any one of the area's excellent restaurants but more often we prepared our meals in the well equipped kitchen and ate in. The bathrooms are more than adequate and the shower in one of them is particularly good. The husband/wife property management team is very gracious and no effort is spared to assure that our stay is as pleasant and comfortable as possible. I would enthusiastically recommend this property to a friend or a relative and we look forward to our next visit.

A Tropical Paradise

5 of 5
The description was accurate but understated. I loved the bathrooms and the general decor. Upon our arrival we found fresh fruit and the refrigerator stocked with eggs, coffee, beer, and all essentials to get you started. We walked the trail behind the house and the tropical plants were amazing. The property is beautiful, peaceful, and well maintained. They responded quickly and the booking was very easy from start to finish. Jason and Victoria were very helpful and recommend restaurants and local activitities. I even tried Victoria's favorite, basil parm wings at Jolly Rodgers. One morning about 20 howler monkeys visited us outside the kitchen window. One of the females was carrying her baby on here back. We walked up the hill to the hotel and restaurant and saw a tree loaded with toucans. This was a very tranquil place to stay. Thank you Jason and Victoria.
