Great house

5 of 5
My husband and I and another couple spent a week here in March and loved it. Private property, fenced in right across the street from the beach. We liked the location, not being right in the town of Montezuma and had rented a car for our stay in CR. The roads to the house are decent gravel roads. Not much traffic. The house itself is well equipped for cooking. 3 nice bedrooms with the sound of the surf to put you to sleep. Nature abounds, monkeys, lizards and remarkably few mosquitos. Not a far drive to get to cabo blanco reserve or the road across to Santa Teresa. A wonderful spot to vacation. I wish we had of been there when the mangos are ripe!

6 days of family adventure in paradise

5 of 5
and our top 6 reasons for why we will be going back to la Cuesta Roja: 1. Family-friendly - my partner and I and our two boys (7 & 9) had an adventure that will never be forgotten! We had no worries about their safety, lots of room to roam and expend energy, days were spent playing in the waves, running up and down the stairs - not as onerous as has been described, very manageable, generally discovering. Great house layout with separate room and bathroom for the kids, though we lived on the covered porch when not down at the beach or exploring the jungle. 2. Wildlife - the howler monkeys hung out one day in the trees beside the house, the 4 scarlet red macaws who returned to "their" tree daily, the lizards, the crabs, the wild horses on the beach across from the house, and all the dogs! Who needs a zoo - just go to la Cuesta Roja! 3. Vista & natural setting - overwhelmingly beautiful, just get in the hammock each morning and pinch yourself - it is real and it is amazing! Beaches to wander, jungle to explore, we paddled on the river and explored the mangroves. The stunning flowers around the property, discovering how pineapples grow, mango trees, banana trees and being able to eat as much coconut as we could! 4. La Cuesta Roja is remote yet so very comfortable - beds, cooking, small fridge, showers & flushing toilets (!), fab solar-powered system - never failed, laundry (!), even an iPod dock for our tunes in the evening!!! Jim has thought of everything. There are even 5-6 pairs of boots and 6 life-jackets as well as 2 boogie boards. 5. Jim was more like a friend than an owner, we really enjoyed our time with him - including a day of fantastic fishing - who catches a sailfish and a rooster fish - we did (well, Jim's expertise did!)!! He was so easy to work with, patiently answered all our Qs before we arrived, was available to us when were on-site and then shared pictures with us after our trip. Jim, you've got friends in Toronto!!! 6. This was a life experience, it is the most talked-about part of our 2wk trip in Costa Rica (surfing lessons in Dominical ranked #2!) and I've shared Jim's web-site link with loads of friends and encouraged them to take their own adventure. We'll be back :-)

Perfect setting, perfect location = great holiday!

5 of 5
When we booked our week at the Garden Cottage, James sent us detailed and helpful information on getting a taxi at San Jose airport, finding the correct bus terminal and safeguarding our belongings while en route. From the beginning we felt that our communication with James was very good, and by the time we arrived we knew that we could rely on him to be honest and helpful. And our arrival at the cottage couldn't have been nicer. James was there to greet our taxi, help with our luggage, and introduce us to our new home. His thoughtfulness in providing basic start-up necessities in the kitchen, delicious Costa Rican coffee, and a bowl of fresh fruit, was very much appreciated by 2 weary travellers. He gave us a quick orientation, left us to settle in and delayed the business aspect until the next day. The cottage itself was clean, comfortable, nicely furnished and decorated, and had everything we needed. We felt at home right away. And the setting couldn't have been better....quiet, restful, birds chirping in the trees, a babbling brook nearby, an outdoor deck to enjoy our morning coffee, while indoors we had all the conveniences of home, including a phone and reliable wi fi. James came by the next day to see how we were doing and to give us information on buses, stores, nearby attractions, San Isidro restaurants etc. On Thursday, he accompanied us to the Ferria (farmers market) and acted as our guide and advisor as we navigated our way through the many stalls selling wonderful fresh produce, fish etc. We had a wonderful holiday here, and would definitely recommend it to family and friends. And if we're back in Costa Rica again, we will certainly stay in this little bit of paradise! Thank you James for your wonderful hospitality.
