A Luxury Treehouse on the Beach

5 of 5
This house had the perfect combination of being so close to the beach we could touch our feet to the sand in under a minute and being clouded by enough jungle that we could escape to complete privacy whenever we wanted. From the infinity pool, we couldn’t see anything but ocean, sky, and trees. I learned that the only houses on the whole 30-acre property were owned by the same person who owns the Bali House, which made me feel very safe. A staff of six people worked at the house, cleaning the pool and the bedrooms and doing laundry. They were very friendly, even though I didn’t speak any Spanish, and they very much kept to themselves. The pool and air conditioning made the hot weather more than tolerable. It was really nice to sit on the deck at night when the air would cool just a bit and sip a glass of wine. The pool light reflected the stars in a gorgeous way that made me feel as though I were sitting at the edge of the universe. For dinner we could walk 15 minutes to get to local restaurants. I cannot stress how delicious chicken is in Costa Rica. I don’t know what they do differently there, but it is amazing. All in all, my Costa Rica vacation was a luxury and a dream. I can only hope I will be able to get another group together and stay at the Bali House again sometime soon.

Epic vacation!

5 of 5
We stayed at Beachwood for 9 heavenly nights. The home and the property it sits upon are a living piece of art. It's so simple and casual, yet very elegant. Beyond the morning walks on the beach and the occasional dinner out, we found that we never wanted to leave the property. The staff are extremely accommodating and kept the home and grounds immaculate. Our concierge gave great suggestions for restaurants and brought in a fantastic masseuse. Our chef, Rob Essa, delighted us with several incredible lunches and dinners, mostly fresh fish caught the same day. We enjoyed the wildlife and were greeted by a troupe of howler monkeys that were mostly unimpressed by us. Sleep isn't the same since we've been home. The sound of the ocean, the comfortable bed and the sweet-smelling air are all that's missing.

Wonderful!

5 of 5
This was our first trip to the tropics and it went really well. Every day we saw the howler monkeys passing by in the gigantic trees next to the house. Lizards, herons, pelicans, iguanas, hawks, vultures, nose bears, bats, squirrels and even an anteater were visiting the farm. We put up hammocks under the gigantic strangler fig on the property. The caretakers helped us to rent horses in Cabuya for a spectacular excursion to Mal Pais. After checking out the beach at low tide we found the perfect spot to body surf during high tide. There was a boogie board and a surfboard to rent. It felt good that the property is completely fenced in and that there is a friendly guard dog around. And it feels very good to be in the second story away from most the critters. Surprisingly there were no mosquitoes while we were there so we did not need the netting at all. If you love nature this is the place.
