Christmas in Paradise

5 of 5
My family stayed at Villa Roselare in Dominical this Christmas. We consisted of 6 adults. What a wonderful vacation! The beauty of the Dominical area is stunning. The house was a dream. The kitchen was fully equipped and a pleasure to cook our meals which we did about half the time (it was hard to leave such a great house). We even cooked Christmas turkey which was a little crazy in 85 degree weather, but hey, it's the holidays! We have rented over 20 homes through vacation rentals and this one was by far our favorite. There are few places on earth as pretty as Costa Rica and this house is placed in a perfect spot to view it. The pool area was our central meeting area whether for a swim or to view the nightly sunsets which were stunning. Our private pool was crystal clear and cleaned frequently. The floating recliners were really comfortable and ideal for being lazy. The master bedroom was huge and had the best view of the house. It was such a pleasure to wake up each morning and see the ocean and the vast beauty of the trees. The sound of howler monkeys greeted us every morning. Beautiful birds flew by as we sat on our lovely second floor porch right above the pool. The two other bedrooms were equally beautiful and had their own unique views. The bathrooms were lovely. We were able to access the wifi and were given our own cellphone to use while we were in Costa Rica. This was our access to great service from Emanuel and Esteban (our host contacts). You definitely need a 4 wheel drive vehicle because the gated driveway (with 24 hour security) is quite steep and unpaved. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this house and the Paradise Breezes

An anniversary celebration of the ages!!

4 of 5
Vista Oceana was an absolutely wonderful venue for the family to assemble in celebration of our 50th weeding anniversary. Unfortunately for us, one of our sons and his spouse were unable to come do to the expected arrival of their first child in January 2015, It's a Girl!, a circumstance that was not foreseen when we made our reservations in 2013. And if they had joined us the house would not have been able to comfortably accommodate all 15 of us. But for 13, it was almost perfect. The setting was marvelous with spectacular sunsets almost every night. The bird life and the monkeys provided experiences that will live on in our memories for years to come. And the location of the infinity pool assured frequent, and much appreciated use. Practically all present engaged in multiple activities and reported high levels of satisfaction with all arrangements. The sunset cruise on a private sailboat was a wonderful and unexpected touch as was the dinner prepared by a chef in the home on Christmas eve. We did experience a brief power outage and the water was unavailable for about 12 hours. But I guess those kind of unanticipated events are not all that uncommon in Manuel Antonio. Other than the Christmas Eve meal, we ate several memorable dinners at first class local restaurants. It is doubtful that we shall ever try to revisit the area for any similar event again, the logistics for a large family with a wide variety of ages and involvements (schools, jobs, etc.) being what they are, but in no way does this indicate the least disappointment with the experience on this most memorable occasion. Thankfully, Dennis Hunter

View to Die For, Perfect Spot in Manuel Antonio

5 of 5
We were getting married in Costa Rica and wanted somewhere memorable to stay the following week, the Casa Barba Roja did not disappoint. The view is simply to die for, it's beautiful and amazing to chill and relax on the deck or by the pool. And although the view for most is probably the main selling point of this rental, the house itself is equally as good. The house is large and spacious, the kitchen is fully stocked with everything you might need to make meals and there is also a BBQ outside that was great to use one night to grill up some fish. The house it is kept very clean with maids coming in almost daily. Since it was just the two of us on our honeymoon the size of the house was perhaps too big for us but we did not care as we liked the privacy this house provides. We would like to go back sometime in the future but with some family/friends, there is more than enough space to accommodate a family or if you went with another couple. Another reason I picked this rental was it's location, I think it's in a good spot that it is maybe half way between the main town and the national park. There is several restaurants within walking distance as well as a bank and some shopping. We had a car rental so it was easy for us to get around but you can also take the local bus which is very cheap and runs regularly, in fact if you are going to the Park I would recommend taking the bus instead of trying to park down there. I don't really have anything negative to say about this place, only a few nitpicking things which I'll detail here but I don't think any of which are big issues. Water pressure is kind of low and there isn't much hot water but this to be somewhat expected in a place like this, the BBQ there isn't as nice as the one shown in the photos (still worked fine though), the locking/security routine for the house was a bit tedious at times (we did not experience problems with it like some of the other reviews but it was kind of tedious to remember to lock all the different locks the correct way), the walkway wasn't an issue for us but if you have any mobility issues/trouble walking then going up and down the path all the time may be hard for you. Also remember there is a $300 cash deposit upon arrival, I forgot about that detail but no biggie. Check-in/out went smoothly with Josue the contact. In short we were very happy with the rental, everything went pretty smoothly and we had a great time. We hope to come back again in the future.
