    PARADISE! NO CAR, NO PROBLEM.

    5 of 5
We stayed for four wonder filled weeks in “SolyLuna” a jungle paradise by the sea. When I say “paradise” I mean it literally. SolyLuna is situated amid several acres of tropical garden beautifully landscaped by owners Patricia and Simon to include 100 foot tall old growth native trees and 100 year old stands of Giant Bamboo. It is inhabited by a resident band of Capuchin monkeys and a roving tribe of Howler monkeys. On our first day there we were greeted by a white faced Capuchin standing upright on our veranda, gazing at us openly. That same day a Coatimundi and an Agouti came and stood on the path leading up to our charming bungalow. There are two other rentals on the property but Patricia and Simon have created, with their landscaping and design, such a sense of privacy that for the first three days of our stay we thought that ours was the only bungalow on the property. The entire estate is surrounded by gated privacy walls and is set 300 meters off of the “main road” so the quiet and serenity is broken only by the sight and sound of the many lovely creatures that live there within the walls. We had decided not to rent a car for this trip and, at SolyLuna, we were glad we didn’t! Just a 5 minute walk down the quiet country road the estate is on brought us to an absolutely beautiful series of mostly deserted palm lined beaches. SolyLuna is situated off the mid way point of a very quiet stretch of the 4 mile dirt road that runs between the town of Montezuma which has many interesting shops and restaurants as well as a reliable ATM that dispenses cash in either dollars or Colones and Cabuya, a small, delightful fishing village with a great bakery, family owned restaurant and a very good market. A local bus runs back and forth regularly along the tree lined beach road connecting these two. We would just walk out through the gate at SolyLuna, stroll 300 meters down to the beach road and when we see the bus coming on the road, hold up our hand and the driver stops for us where ever we are. He also stops anywhere along the road you wish to get off either for a particular beach or to visit a friend.
