"Los Sueños Dorados" proved to be an incredible vacation that our family will remember forever! I got to use my high school Spanish and was amazed at how much I recalled. My husband was impressed. We drove from Sam Jose airport with no difficulty, as the directions were well laid out and easy to follow with the photo inserts and mileage marked. Judy provided detailed information, along with suggestions to activities prior to and following our arrival. The house is located at the end of the road at the in juncture of three rivers, hence the neighborhood name of Tres Rios. It is very private, though not isolated. We were able to get in and out of the area without four wheel drive, though 4x is useful for other areas that we visited. "Los Sueños Dorados" was a beautiful, well maintained yellow house on the hill with a red roof. Access was easy with a lock box on the front door. Inside the three bedroom home was clean, bright, and inviting. We looked out the back door and saw a beautiful pool and picnic/ grilling area....inviting us to drop all and go for a swim. That proved to be the place where we spent most of our at home time. It was wonderful. We swam almost every morning and often in the evening. If not, we were at the beach, which was not crowded, like beaches at home...nice! We tried several different beaches and the fish ceviche bought from a beach vendor was delicious! Nature was incredible. There were many birds and the humming birds were non stop. Every morning there were toucans in the trees near the pool. They returned every evening. We saw a family of armadillos. Coati mundis were in Domincal...cute! Walking down to the rivers surrounding the property provided lots of other wildlife, and plants growing wildly that I paid too much for at the nursery at home. There was a great swimming hole there, with one side a huge slanted rock wall. Further down stream was a 40 foot waterfall. We spent a couple of mornings there. What really made this trip special were the local people that we got to know. Carlos is the caretaker. He is delightful and I learned a lot of Spanish visiting with him. He has lived there all his life and was helpful with any question or concern that came up. Hi wife Lila was really sweet and cleaned for us each week. The pool guys were even friendly. Memo is the older guy and his brother lives in Georgia...near Atlanta, where my father lives. We ate often at La Parada Turistica, as Judy recommended. Carolina's is

Paradise Found at Sierpe Del Pacifico

      5 of 5
My family of five had the adventure of a life time at Sierpe del Pacifico (our three children range in ages from 8-17). The jungle home is stunning, clean and placed right in the middle of the jungle--toucans, parrots, capuchin and howler monkeys are neighbours. We loved the solitude and natural splendour of the property. Paradise is simply sitting on the porch, overlooking the jungle and the Sierpe River, watching scarlet macaws fly by. We took boat trips to Corcovado Park, Cano Island, Violin Island and went horseback riding with Rosita (which was so much fun)! Caesar was a top notch guide in Corcovado--very informative and he tracked a tapir for us. Felipe was a friendly, kind and knowledgeable driver on our way to and from San Jose. In fact, everyone we dealt with regarding our vacation was friendly, knowledgable and eager to help. The experience best suits those who enjoy nature and wilderness, don't mind hot and humid weather and can handle a 5-10 minute up hill climb to the house from the dock. Make sure to stock up on groceries well before Sierpe as we found the town grocery store lacking. Being submersed in the true jungle, I learned more on the Oso Peninsula about life than in my 8 years of university. I've been home for a while; yet, I still miss the howler monkeys and their morning calls. Thank you Cassidy, it was the most amazing vacation and I'd love to return.
