HAPPINESS

5 of 5
What an incredible experience. It felt that, for the first time in a long while, we had a chance to properly relax, switch off and enjoy the natural beauty that rural Costa Rica has to offer. We stayed at the Rancho for a duration for a month and a half and were excessively sad to leave when the time came to do so. Fritz and Aileen welcomed us like friends, as did Oscar, the property manager. The vibe was very chill and the wild life was exactly what we were hoping it would be. Couldn't have been happier with our experience. Thank you Fritz, Aileen and Oscar. Pura vida!

BEAUTIFUL, PRIVATE SPOT WITH OCEAN BREEZES.

5 of 5
This January/February marked our third stay at La Floresta and our 4th visit to Cabuya. I have mixed feelings about writing this review because I like to think that La Floresta is my own secret getaway and am hesitant to share it with anyone else but, Claudia asked me to do it and so only as a favor to our host. Of all of the many beaches we have visited in Costa Rica, this place is the best. The beach itself is not the prettiest since at low tide there is a lot of exposed volcanic rock. But that is just fine with us since that is the time many different shore birds choose to search for minnows and crabs. High tide offers the time to swim. What borders the beach, however, is quite beautiful and there are rarely any other people in site. La Floresta offers almost constant cooling breezes during the day and lots of shade to avoid the hot daytime sun. In the afternoon, we often sit on the chairs overlooking the Pacific watching the pelicans dive and drinking cold Costa Rican beer. At low tide I usually hike out to the cemetery island where I fly cast off of the rocks or wade into the cove. No time is ever the same, with sitings of large sea turtles, schools of fish and beautifully colored sting rays. The house is simple yet elegant. We spend most of our time on the open but, covered living room patio. The outdoor shower is a plus. The area is nicely landscaped with native plants and trees that offer shade and privacy. Claudia lives next door but her place is hidden from La Floresta. Claudia is , however, almost always around and ready to help out if needed. The village of Cabuya is not a tourist town. If you want that you should stay in Mal Pais or Santa Teresa where you will get your fill. Cabuya is where you get to meet Ticos and practice your Spanish. There are at least 2 great restaurants, Marvin's and El Coyote, and a couple a couple of other good ones, all within easy walking distance of La Floresta. There is a bakery and there are 2 small supermarkets. You can buy fresh and smoked fish from local folks. In addition to the ocean, there is a small river within easy walking distance that offers waterfalls, pools of clear, cool water and great birding. For those who enjoy wildlife Cabuya offers significant biodiversity. In summary, we continue to return to La Floresta because it is a unique place like nothing else we have found in Costa Rica.
