Best Family Vacation Yet!

5 of 5
Villa Bougainvillea is absolutely immaculate, beautiful and has all of the amenities you are looking for in a "home away from home". Although there are other properties near Villa Bougainvillea, the landscaping makes it feel completely private and comfortable. The ocean waves are audible from the terrace or the living room if you leave the patio doors open. There are 2 private "en-suites" which make it great for large groups / families that want their own privacy. For travelers going during "dry" season, please note that at times your water will be turned off. This happens not just in Villa Bougainvillea, but throughout Guanacaste, especially the last month of dry season - which is when we traveled there. It is usually turned off in the early morning for about an hour. Not too inconvenient. If you travel any other time, you should not run into this problem. Location is great and "centralized" to get to many other places easily. "Special Places of Guanacaste" concierge services were outstanding and made excursion arrangements ahead of time and also last minute. They did a wonderful job, and our family did not miss out on any Costa Rican adventure. The locals around Villa Bougainvillea are so pleasant, and the nearby Restaurants were great and have some live free entertainment - fire throwing-belly dancing-flying yoga and more. Make sure you explore the volcanoes, go white water rafting, surfing, horse back riding and ATVing. ATVing is so much more fun in Costa Rica than anywhere in the U.S. Also, if you think that it is impossible to surf, guess again. Special Places hooked us up with a SUPERBOLOUS surf instructor, and my kids and I actually "rode the waves" for the first time ever. EXHILARATING! Villa Bougainvillea is HUGE, beautifully decorated, has the most comfortable sleeping arrangements, incredible view, large and clean pool and a wonderful waterfall in entrance foyer that has great ambiance. Any family would enjoy there stay here!

A great place, great people, perfect.

If you looking for a resort style location, this may not be it...however, if you are looking for 5 star accommodations, peace and quiet and great local flavor, this might be exactly it! The grounds of this rental are absolutely stunning, lush, the pool and hot tub exactly as shown, with your balconies overlooking the pool area. Really perfect. The condos/villas (not sure how to classify them) are extremely well kept and have everything you could ask for. Lots of privacy if you want it. Chance to visit at the pool if you want to too. Much thanks to Marling and Francisco for their attentiveness and kindness. Thanks also to Gladys and Greg for all of the information about where to go and where to eat...their recommendations are bang on. They are a wealth of information... We tend to avoid crowds while on vacation but do enjoy eating suppers out and exploring the neighborhood. We were at Stef Surf for almost two weeks and enjoyed eating out at different local restaurants every night except one, when we ate in and barbecued shrimp. Every meal was good, some excellent, and all reasonably priced. We spent far less than budgeted and didn't scrimp on wine and drinks...and we never, not even for a minute, missed having a car. We bought breakfast supplies and snacks at the local "Super Wendy's"..including eggs, fresh bread, cheeses, fruits and vegetables. Note: lots of gluten free options....(avocados, bananas... There is a great local fruit and vegetable stand just outside of town.) We were able to walk to several beaches from where we were staying, but if you wanted to drive, the options would be unlimited. Margaritas and fish at La Brisas, burgers at Maxwell's, (custom made just for us...absolutely lovely....) chimmichangas at the Shack, Sunsets at the Beach house. We walked for hours everyday... Came back feeling refreshed and relaxed. A great place, great people, perfect.

Casa de la Banana Luna Love

5 of 5
This was our fourth time visiting Costa Rica, and we have been to and stayed in some magical places. This Casa is our favorite by far. The view alone is worth the price. Take in the gorgeous sunsets every evening while soaking in the infinity pool or lounging on the back patio enjoying the cool breezes from off the Ocean. Private access to Playa Flamingo, a pristine white sandy beach with plenty of shade and never too crowded. A short walk down the beach and you have a wonderful restaurant, sip delicious cocktails and munch tasty treats with your toes in the sand. Another incredible place to take in the sunset. A short drive to other beaches up and down the coast. We had six kids from ages 4-10 in our party, and they all loved it too. Fred and his staff made everything perfect for us, will definitely be going back again at the first opportunity. Book this house, you will not be disappointed!
