          BEAUTIFUL CARILLO HOME

          5 of 5
What a wonderful place to stay, in one of the best beach destinations in Costa Rica. From the very beginning the owner was incredibly helpful with booking the trip and helping us with local insights/advice on what to expect in the Carillo/Samara area. The house is exactly as advertised, simple, functional decor, and absolutely lovely! The home was lovely and clean on our arrival, with everything you need for every day living. The pool is wonderful! Well maintained and the temperature was perfect; shaded at just the time you wanted it in the later afternoon after a perfect day at Carillo beach. The property is private and quiet, which is exactly what we were looking for. The air conditioners, fans, cable TV and internet all worked well. Playa Carillo is breathtaking, such a fabulous beach that is just perfect day after day. We went to 12 other beach destinations, Carillo outshone them all! Great family beach, waves are fun but not scary, great for our group that varied in age from 4 to 71! You can buy all your basics in Carillo, or get more variety/restaurants close by in Samara. We ate mostly at home, but enjoyed some great meals out. Our best meals were at El Lagarto, a BBQ, seaside restaurant in Samara, higher end but delicious, and Al Manglar Bar & Pizzeria, fabulous Italian, great hostess, and prices were great. Hula Jungla is just down the street in Carillo, and is also a good choice for a decent meal out. A car is almost a necessity, although the buses do go by just down the street every hour. I would certainly come back, and would recommend this place to friends and family.

          OFF THE BEATEN PATH

          5 of 5
We stayed at Villa Serena for a week at the beginning of May. It is about an hour and a half from Liberia airport at the end of the road going through Playa Carilllo. I drank water out of the taps and had no issues but there are plenty of small stores in the area to purchase food, drinks and alcohol. Hint: Purchase your hard liquor at the airport. Cheaper for some reason, I think taxes. The home itself is sitting on a cliff about 50 feet above a small beach. Every now and then locals would use it and go sit on the rocks to watch the waves crash, but most of the time, you have it to yourself. The beach is a short walk down a moderate pathway and if you ventured out onto the rocks you get to view some wonderful sunsets. The waves crashing on the rocks was constant and the sound carried throughout the home. All the amenities in the home were high end and in very good working order including the pool. Three of the four bedrooms were nice size with their own bathrooms, one was much smaller and would have to use one of the other baths. We have been to CR several times and I must say that Denisse provided the most information about the surrounding area and things to do of all the VRBO homes that we have rented. This home also had the best views of our stays and the best feeling of seclusion. Modesto and Marcia were wonderful and attentive without being intrusive.
