Wonderful getaway

5 of 5
We were so excited to come here. After seeing all the nice pictures and reading the great reviews, we were so ready for our vacation. In advance we exchanged several emails with Siobhan and Hugues and received very detailed and helpful information regarding the house and surroundings. So we thought we are well prepared what to expect but when we arrived even our 2 teenaged kids gaped with their mouths open. What a beautiful place! Gina, the property manager was greeting us with a very warm welcome and showed us around answering every question and giving tips where to eat locally. We loved the layout of the house; it feels like home being away from home. Everything you might need is provided; it is clean, cozy, and comfortable. We had breakfast on the patio every morning during our 8 day stay; often we stayed half of the day and enjoyed the great pool watching wildlife from the early morning to dusk. There are so many different species of birds to find. We saw up to 6 toucans in the papaya tree; those are very funny creatures. We had at least 2 coatis visiting the property regularly; they just walked by, mainly ignoring us. We saw and more often heard howler monkeys in the trees. We visited different places: the Saturday market, little stores and restaurants in Montezuma; Cabuya- which has some nice little restaurants and great café and you can by fresh local fish; Playa Santa Teresa, Playa Hermosa, Cobano. We all enjoyed zip lining and jumping the waterfall. We went on a day snorkeling trip and also visited Reserva Natural Cabo Blanco. There are so many things to see and to do but we always came back fairly soon to enjoy the pool and relaxing patio again. We are very thankful getting such an opportunity for a wonderful family vacation. Everyone had an amazing time and we would love to comeback sooner than later! Thank you! Kristen

Secluded setting and abundant nature

5 of 5
During the summer of 2013 my wife and I spent one month at the Newville Pool House and we were delighted when it was available the following January for another visit of ten days. The property is very nicely situated within easy walking distance to the shops, markets and restaurants of Cabuya and yet, since it is very secluded, affords a high level of privacy. The ocean is near enough that it can be heard at night. We enjoyed the richness of nature which surrounded us; a troop of howler monkeys often took up residence in a pochote tree next to the house; agoutis played in the back yard while iguanas fed on fallen hibiscus blossoms; flowers draw a multitude of butterflies and hummingbirds; birdlife is profuse. The house itself is beautifully designed, very light and airy, and a genial place to spend time when we were not out availing ourselves of the region's many natural attractions such as the beaches, the Rio Lajas, the Montezuma Waterfall, the nature reserve of Cabo Blanco, and more. We occasionally dined out at any one of the area's excellent restaurants but more often we prepared our meals in the well equipped kitchen and ate in. The bathrooms are more than adequate and the shower in one of them is particularly good. The husband/wife property management team is very gracious and no effort is spared to assure that our stay is as pleasant and comfortable as possible. I would enthusiastically recommend this property to a friend or a relative and we look forward to our next visit.

Amazing place!

5 of 5
My friends and I spent a wonderful time at this beautiful Villa in Montezuma. The place has amazing views and great common spaces to hang out around the kitchen and living room. The fact that the living room is completely open space (no windows nor doors) makes this living room area fresh because of the winds that come from both the Ocean in the front and the River in the back, plus it allows one to feel in total contact with nature. The Villa has two enormous bedrooms (each one can sleep up to 6 or more people), and two bathrooms, each one with open-air showers and wonderful slate floors. The upstairs bedroom is a very special space. It has access to a deck overlooking the property where you can sit or sleep out under the stars and watch the sunrise over the ocean in the morning. Sleeping in that room, with all of the windows open, is an experience you will not forget. The house has everything you need to have a comfortable vacation. The kitchen is well equipped and the furniture is both tasteful and comfortable. This Wildlife Sanctuary Villa is conveniently located less than a mile from the town and beaches of Montezuma (5 minute drive) and far enough to avoid the noise of the bars and restaurants from downtown. If you don’t have a car it is about a 20 minute walk down to town and there are buses that run up and down the hill every 2 hours. The place does not have a swimming pool, the owner never wished to have a chlorinated pool because she has, instead, the Montezuma River right in the backyard, down a trail where we went swimming. It is a short hike (hilly so take good hiking shoes or sandals, NOT flip flops, and once you get to the River, you have the place all to yourselves, along with all of the birds and the monkeys who are always there.. We spent about three hours just reading and sunbathing, and it was heavenly. Kati, the owner, and Johnny, the Administrator, will do anything they can to accommodate your needs. Johnny (who lives in the tree house next door) is a great host and helps you with anything you might need.
