Felt like our home away from home

5 of 5
Our family of 5 recently stayed here for a week and didn't want to leave! I hadn't realised how close to town this place is - it sits literally on the edge of town; and the town, along with Ivan's House, is built right on the beach. The yard is surrounded by trees, gardens or fencing though, so while its not secluded, you have plenty of privacy while at the house. The location was perfect for us and made cooking at the house easy since the local grocery store is just a one minute walk away if anything was needed. Plus we enjoyed hearing the sounds from town and of course the constant sound of the surf. Both downstairs bedrooms have full bathrooms and the loft bedroom has a half bath (no shower). The loft is also the only part of the house with AC. There is an outside sink which was handy for laundering small items and the clothes line in the back made it easy to dry towels and swim suits each day. The outside shower we used daily for washing all the sand out after returning from a swim. We had everything we needed here for an extended stay. Ivan was super to deal with from start to finish - always answered emails promptly and was patient with my many questions. He looked after the arrangements for the taxi-boat ride to get to Montezuma and made good suggestions for places to eat or things to see in the area. We also used his tour company (Zumatours) for a day-trip to Isla Tortuga and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My favorite part of our stay was definitely the mornings - opening up all the shutters, watching the sun come up and enjoying a quiet cup of coffee while the breezes blew in from the ocean...wonderful!

Great Chill-Out Place

5 of 5
We arrived (14th Feb. 2015 ) at Dos Iguanos, following a fantastic 11 day coast to coast road trip across the north of Costa Rica. Our first impression upon sight of the property was that we had made an excellent decision, both with the house and also the location. The larger of the Dos Iguanos is bright, airy & large, the upstairs bedroom area being a particularly good space. The kitchen & appliances were adequate for purpose and the patio absolutely suited for outdoor living. There is plenty of shade on offer here both on the patio and in the garden. The downstairs bathroom was large having both a bath & shower. Walk 40 metres through the unspoilt natural garden and you find the pebble beach with small areas of sand, backed by amazing pieces of driftwood. If the tide is in swimming is easy, if out, the beach is very rocky and aqua shoes allow you to still wander around in the rock pools. We were visited in the garden by howler & capuchin monkeys, iguanas and squirrels plus numerous birds, whilst pelicans, frigates and herons could be seen at the beach. Cabuya is a great virtually unspoilt fishing village, 4 or 5 "restaurants" of which Marvins was our favourite. Two local supermarkets provide most daily needs although fresh meat is best brought in from Cabano. A small second hand book shop plus a gift shop completes the shopping options. Roads are unpaved and most people walk around or hire bikes. Cabo Blanco Reserve is just 2km away & its 6 mile round trip hike to a fantastic beach complete with wildlife spotting on the way, is a must do. Finally, our booking through the owner Sean went without a hitch and manager Cindy was on hand to deal with any issues arising during our stay. We left feeling relaxed and well rested although a little sad we weren`t staying longer.

Personal Paradise

5 of 5
This is our second trip to Patricia and Simon's property. Two years ago we stayed at one of their bungalows. This year, we rented the dream House Estrella. Patricia and Simon are lovely people, very knowledgeable and helpful. Patricia has a wonderful map that has everything you need to know. Estrella is exactly how it looks and sounds. Everyone's reviews are accurate. It truly is a very special spot, made by it's owners, who obviously have love for what they do. Simon is extremely talented and is able to show it off around the property. Patricia is like a monkey whisperer and able to talk them out of trees!! The house and the yard are picture perfect. Ylang Ylang, plumeria, cactus, banana trees, orange trees, hibiscus, mango trees...hummingbirds, monkeys (white faced and howler), coati, agouti, butterflies, racoons, wrens, cranes, geckos, lizards. My husband and I checked off so many of the animals on the sheets provided in the house. We spent a day playing with our camera on the property. Such cool pictures of flowers and trees and wildlife. They are truly blessed to live in such a special spot. We loved Estrella. We love the peace and quiet. The tranquility. We like to be away from the noise and the hustle. We love to rejuvenate here. We had the incredible experience of a night storm. The first one they have seen in 100 years during this time of year!! You basically get sun from six to six...most mornings our howler monkey alarm clock started at about 5:30. We had lazy mornings, drinking coffee, a nice breakfast, watching the wildlife, reading our books. There was no need to ever even leave Estrella...we were so content. The beach is so close, and often only pelicans and locals are there. The water is warm, but powerful. The best part is the outdoor shower afterwards though, with the sun shining down. I did not ever want to leave. But when we did, we walked everywhere...a solid 45 minutes to Cabuya or Montezuma. Cabuya has a bakery that is our favourite stop. We ate there a lot and enjoyed lots of sweets and goodies from there. There is also a little book store and a souvenir shop. The Super David had lots of grocery options. The Isle of Cabuya, their cemetery that you can only get to at low tide, is tranquil and eerie. Very beautiful. Montezuma is more touristy, a younger crowd, atvs, and much louder. El Sano Banano was our favourite spot to eat, with cool juices, sushi and tostados. In short, we loved everything about this area.
