A Serene Garden Paradise of Scent and Color

5 of 5
We stayed in Estrella, house of the Stars for a month. We did not have a car and had no trouble getting to wherever we wanted to go for whatever we wanted to procure. Los Cedros is midway between Montezuma and Cabuya, about 2 miles in each direction. The bus runs hourly throughout the day. You are close enough, and yet far enough away. Perfect!! To paint a bit of a picture for you: The sun sets, scents of ylang-ylang wafts, the howler monkeys roar, the coatis and agoutis wander through the exotic garden. You can dine by candlelight on the exquisite veranda and not hear anything but the sounds of the creatures and the breezes through the tall trees surrounding the lush garden...The darkness envelopes (if you wish) uninterrupted; constellations shine huge and brilliant in the sky overhead. And we haven't even gotten to the house yet, which is a perfection of artistic flourishes. We have been here a month and continue to discover and delight in them. Patricia and Simone have gathered shells, driftwood, stones... and arranged them all about as handles, towel racks, etc. Wooden bowls for the fruit and vegetables to display them to advantage. You will be greeted by a huge floral bouquet of tropical blooms. The queen bed is very comfortable, flanked by bed tables of artistic wood chunks. The bathroom is a marvel on all levels. The lighting can be high or low, depending on your needs. The kitchen has everything necessary to prepare gourmet meals. We would walk to Vim's, the local renowned fisherman, and they would be coming in with the day's catch just off the boat: lobster, shrimp, mahi-mahi, red snapper. Estrella has an oven! A rarity in this area, so use it to advantage if you are cooking. If not, you can go to Marvin's a local eatery for the casada; the Bakery in Cabuya is just beyond for an incredible smoothie and fish sandwich. Everything is great. Waterfalls and lagoons abound in easy walking distance. I want to tell you that you will be so pleased that you selected to stay in Estrella.

Wonderful getaway

5 of 5
We were so excited to come here. After seeing all the nice pictures and reading the great reviews, we were so ready for our vacation. In advance we exchanged several emails with Siobhan and Hugues and received very detailed and helpful information regarding the house and surroundings. So we thought we are well prepared what to expect but when we arrived even our 2 teenaged kids gaped with their mouths open. What a beautiful place! Gina, the property manager was greeting us with a very warm welcome and showed us around answering every question and giving tips where to eat locally. We loved the layout of the house; it feels like home being away from home. Everything you might need is provided; it is clean, cozy, and comfortable. We had breakfast on the patio every morning during our 8 day stay; often we stayed half of the day and enjoyed the great pool watching wildlife from the early morning to dusk. There are so many different species of birds to find. We saw up to 6 toucans in the papaya tree; those are very funny creatures. We had at least 2 coatis visiting the property regularly; they just walked by, mainly ignoring us. We saw and more often heard howler monkeys in the trees. We visited different places: the Saturday market, little stores and restaurants in Montezuma; Cabuya- which has some nice little restaurants and great café and you can by fresh local fish; Playa Santa Teresa, Playa Hermosa, Cobano. We all enjoyed zip lining and jumping the waterfall. We went on a day snorkeling trip and also visited Reserva Natural Cabo Blanco. There are so many things to see and to do but we always came back fairly soon to enjoy the pool and relaxing patio again. We are very thankful getting such an opportunity for a wonderful family vacation. Everyone had an amazing time and we would love to comeback sooner than later! Thank you! Kristen

I just Love the peace and quiet

5 of 5
This was our first trip to Costa Rica during the rainy season and it did not disappoint. I would certainly suggest a 4-wheel-drive vehicle as the roads can be a bit slippery. No Snow Casa was perfect! Everything was so green, the flowers on all the bushes were blooming and attracting butterflies and humming birds. It was fun to pick limons off the tree in the yard for our drinks, fresh & juicy! We even found a star fruit on one of the trees. There was a fun critter that showed up every day. It looked like a long nosed raccoon, I think they called it a Pisoti? We called him Charles. He really liked our selection of fruit and he came right up to us for his treats. The neighborhood is fantastic and we even met several of the neighbors who were quick to make us feel right at home. We walked to a couple of waterfalls, one just up stream from the narrow yellow bridge, and one the other direction in the development. We loved all the natural woodwork, the rocking chairs, the awesome shower, and the tranquility. Oh, Montezuma is outstanding too!!
