My family--two adults and two teen girls--stayed at Pete's Place for week in June. It was our favorite place of our three week trip. Though the house sits just off the main road, we did not find road noise to be an issue at all. It was easy walking distance to stores, restaurants, and the bus--just a block or two--unlike another place we stayed where "easy walking distance" meant a 20 to 30 minute walk on a steep winding dirt road. You definitely do not need a car here--we did fine with the bus and occasional taxi (taxi stand 1 block away). When you enter the gate it feels like you are in another world. The vegetation is lush and the two decks provide an ocean and mountain view and have hammocks and chairs. The house itself is a little older, but it is very spacious and comfortable, complete with washer/dryer and everything you need to cook. AC and wifi worked great. The absolute best thing about Pete's Place is the huge private pool. It's a short walk through the jungle down some stairs to a beautiful pool set back in the jungle. We saw more wildlife here than on our guided walk in the Curi Canchi Reserve in Monteverde. When getting out of the pool on our first day, I looked up and saw a sloth in the tree right by the pool. He stayed there for most of the week. One day a huge family of squirrel monkeys (about 20 including moms with babies) came passing through. Another day we were visited by white-faced monkeys and there are birds galore. You can even turn on the lights and swim at night. Pete is wonderful--available to answer questions and help out when needed, but gives you plenty of privacy. We loved our stay at Pete's Place and would highly recommend Pete's Place to others. It is certainly a gem in the Manuel Antonio area.
