Great place to get away with the girls!

5 of 5
PERFECT “GIRL’S ONLY” RETREAT AT MONO HOUSE After a really hectic winter, I decided that I needed to get away and decided on a “Girl’s Only” trip - no kids, no husbands allowed. So, after much research, the three of us set our sights on Puerto Viejo, on the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica and Mono en la Cara! What an amazing adventure it turned out to be. We had to spend a few days in San Jose (which we highly recommend) because the house was occupied for a few days before we arrived in PV, but boy, oh boy, it was certainly worth the wait! Mono en la Cara (Monkey in your Face) was a real treat and better than we even anticipated! The owners were great to deal with; the property managers were fantastic. Our entire stay was great; the town is amazing, the beaches very varied and pristine and the house was always a pleasure “to come home to”! Thanks for the tip of Ami Modo (an amazing Italian Restaurant at the far end of town) and when you do visit, make sure you make the trek to Manzanillo and Maxi’s; you will be glad you did!! Highly recommend staying here you won't be disappointed!

Great house and superb gardens

5 of 5
The house is wonderful, well equipped with all basic appliances and good internet (we rented the house before and this is a great improvement). Also secure and clean. Housekeeping is provided and also two bikes (which are old but both working fine). Biking is one of the best ways to move around in Puerto Viejo. Nice hammocks to rest and enjoy the view. The rooms and bathroom on the second floor are very comfortable, with big windows facing the gardens, therefore you can enjoy them since you wake up or while you are showering (my favorite part of the house). The manager was also willing to solve quickly the questions and inquiries we had regarding the maintenance. Another plus of the house are the well maintained gardens all over the big property, which makes it a delight for the eyes and senses and are great attractors of hummingbirds, butterflies (the blue morpho especially) woodpeckers, tangers, sloths (we had one of those wonderful visitors in one of the trees), just to mentioned some of the abundant species that comes daily to the garden. The house is very well located, only 50 meters from the most superb beaches in Southern Caribbean (Playa Chiquita). The beaches in this area are great for swimming because the coral reefs protects them from dangerous currents, which is not the case in all the beaches. Also walkable distance to Punta Uva and Cocles (other super beaches in the area). I stayed with my family, 6 year-old daughter and husband, and my daughter was delighted with the daily discoveries in terms of insects, butterflies, birds and animals, if you are a nature lover this is a good choice. You can find in the house guides to all the Costa Rican biodiversity, very handy and useful! Duende Gourmet, a small but very good supermarket is located near the house, which is another plus. Every Saturday morning the small Organic Market in downtown Puerto Viejo, offers fresh organic vegetables, fruits, dairy products, honey, jams, homemade bread, cakes, and even organic soap. Be sure to arrive early in the morning to get the best products. Other restaurants are nearby which are very good such as Shawandah (french-Caribbean), Botánica Orgánica (great breakfast and lunch), and a good cup of coffee in the Swiss-owned café next to the School. If you want to have fresh bread every morning you can buy it in Vida Sana, also a walking distance. I fully recommend the house! And hopefully will come in the near future!

A Great Place!

5 of 5
What a great property! Casa Verde is a unique little place with a number of interesting artistic touches including beautiful woodwork and tiling. The front patio was a great place for coffee in the morning and drinks in the evening. The property is very private, secure, well-equipped and well maintained. Annie was an excellent host. She is friendly, knowledgeable and eager for her guests to enjoy themselves. Her property manager, Nando, was also friendly and helpful. As advertised, Casa Verde is very close to a good, black sand beach that is basically clean and quite swimmable. If you continue to follow the road to the beach, a five minute walk will bring you to the reggae bar, a great spot at dusk to have a beer and watch the ocean as the sun goes down. The most outstanding feature of the area, for us, was the national park. It has a long, level hiking trail where you will usually see many different forms of wildlife including sloths, anteaters, lots of monkeys and the occasional eyelash pit viper. We were surprised to see raccoons there. We were more surprised when they climbed onto our picnic table and were only too willing to share our food with no invitation required! We had a wonderful two weeks at Casa Verde and Cahuita and would be delighted to return to this property in the future.
