Favourite home rental in Costa Rica!!

5 of 5
This home is right in the middle of paradise. The pictures really don't depict the beauty of Carlo's property. We visited Corcovado for a day tour; however, we saw more wildlife right from our house such as howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, two types of toucans, scarlet macaws, and countless other small birds. Just a five minute drive down the road towards Matapalo there were more morpho butterflies than anywhere else we had ever seen in Costa Rica. Our teenagers loved the surf boards and we all utilized the kayaks. We saw a sea turtle while out on the kayaks and could see where they came to shore to lay their eggs at night. Carlos cooked a delicious meal on our first night arriving and his price was very reasonable. We were very thankful that Carlos was nearby to answer all our questions and offer advice on nearby activities. On Friday night, Carlos suggested a nearby farmers market. There were various artisans with beautiful jewelry, masks, homemade soaps, homemade veggie burgers, ice-cream, jams and countless other items. The weather was very hot, so you need to be prepared for that. We loved how the home was open-air without windows; it was a very cool experience for the kids. This is the place to stay in the Osa!!

Jungle Paradise!

5 of 5
Just returned from a week’s stay at Casa De Blue and all we can say is wow! Julian is a wealth of knowledge and the perfect host. The house location is absolutely the best spot anywhere around. Perfect for viewing and accessing two world-class right point breaks. Perfect for getting breezes from any direction and getting away from the bugs you’ll find in other houses closer to the beach (not a single mosquito bite!). Perfect for accessing other jungle activities like hiking Corcovado National Park, but if like us, we saw enough wildlife (monkeys, toucans, macaws, etc.) right from the dining room table! Oh yea, the dipping pool is icing on the cake after the walk up from the beach or jungle. Like other reviewers say, this house is not the place to bring young kids due to multi-levels of steps and lack of railings. However, it’s perfect for adults wanting to get away from it all. Just do your research on what to bring (and what not to bring) to this remote area. You don’t need lots of clothes and heavy shoes. You do need the following: 4WD if driving, flashlights, plenty of groceries if doing your own cooking, and an attitude that you are ready to get away from AC, technology and civilization in general. If you plan to surf, consider reef booties if your feet not tough enough to do the rock dances required for some of the breaks. Thanks Julian! Can’t wait to book my next trip!

January 2013 Family Reunion

5 of 5
My overall rating for my stay at Casa Vida Verde is exceptional!! Everything was exactly as advertised and expected, if not more than expected. Therefore the listing description is spot on regarding the location, layout, amenities and everything else. I would highly recommend this area and this property to others. The caretaker Carlos and his wife Sianne were very informational and helpful in anything that we needed. The property is well maintained and the house was kept clean during our 5 night stay. Beds were made, towels were changed, garbage was removed, floors were swept, etc. I was also impressed that they provided a large bin for recycling materials and a bin for organic garbage. They also had a large wooden box to place organic foods in overnight in order to keep any wildlife away. We requested to have our meals cooked for us a couple of nights and mornings. The ladies that came to cook were very friendly and quite talented to put together delicious meals with whatever we had available for them. We joked that they would be good on the Food Network show "Chopped"! I was suprised at the lack of bugs (mosquito, purruja type bugs) at the house in the evening. We were prepared with repellent but never had to use it at the house or in the general area. As expected with any open house located in the middle of the jungle, there was the occasional scorpion, beetle, ants, etc., but were never a problem. My party included my 2 nieces of 2.5 yrs and 8 months old. Everything at the house was child friendly and they also enjoyed their stay and especially seeing the monkeys so often. The only thing that we wished we had noticed before we arrived was that we should have brought ice. The refrigerator keeps things cold, but it does not produce ice. The website does recommend bringing ice, but we missed that. However, Carlos was able to get some later during our stay when he went into Puerto Jimenez. The rum and cokes were expecially good that night! There are not words to describe waking up to the howler monkeys, toucans, and macaws every morning. And to be able to see the 4 species of monkey that exist in CR from the hammock at the house is priceless! If we are lucky, we will make coming here a family tradition every year. It was definitely the best New Years/Anniversary/Birthday/Family Reunion ever!!
