                      GREAT LITTLE CASITA!

                      5 of 5
The casita was quaint and clean and within walking distance to Atenas. Pat and John were wonderful hosts and gave us helpful information about the area and culture. We enjoyed the oranges and lemons from the trees in their yard and the sunsets were spectacular from the rooftop patio. After the sun sets the city lights can be seen on the horizon and the firefly's come alive in the soccer field next door reminding us of childhood days gone by. The first day there, Pat and John drove us to the local grocery so we could stock up while they enjoyed a cup of coffee at the grocery café, and we stopped in for a few more groceries a couple of days later and couldn't resist a cup of coffee and apple cake on the way out, it was delicious! We also visited El Toledo Organic Coffee Farm in San Isidro, a must visit. It was an amazing tour that took us through the entire process from seed to cup and Gerardo's family was very warm and welcoming. It is great to see a family farm interested in balance of nature, sustainable and eco friendly practices and making fantastic coffee. We stopped in almost daily at Gelly's across from the park in the center of Atenas when the rain showers passed through town to enjoy a cappuccino, gelato or crepes. We visited Antano's in town for the traditional lunch meal, casado (beans, rice, meat, salad and plantain and a tostada) and various sodas to sample empanadas filled with meat, vegetables or fruit. Kay's Gringo Postres was filled with interesting stories and local information from Kay herself and the new owner Lisa was gracious and welcoming, along with numerous other folks who shared their stories of moving to and living in Atenas. The park in the center of town is a great place to hang out, people watch and pass the day. Everyone was in town was super friendly unless they were behind the wheel.... and then it was like Mr. Toad's wild ride, but that's another story, you just have to be here to believe it. All in all, a great getaway, and my only hesitation about recommending this place is that if word gets out it may be booked up the next time we want to visit Atenas. Thank you Pat and John for the wonderful memories and the beginning of a new adventure.

                      A TRUE SLICE OF HEAVEN

                      5 of 5
Poco Cielo My husband and I recently spent six incredible weeks in Costa Rica. Centrally located just outside Atenas in the Central Valley, we chose Poco Cielo as our home base while we explored the country and immersed ourselves in the serene and endless beauty that defines Costa Rica. To our good fortune, Poco Cielo is a perfect microcosm of all that is extraordinary about CR. Located on six lush acres with breathtaking mountain views everywhere, Poco Cielo is also home to many of the unique species of birds and animals that inhabit Costa Rica. The air is filled with their voices. The property is beautifully maintained, covered in trees and flowering plants of countless varieties. And the weather, well they say it is the best on Earth. We can't disagree. With just four cabinas for rent, Poco Cielo affords lots of quiet and privacy, if that is what you want. The cabins are cheerful, roomy, comfortable and tastefully appointed. With lots of windows and high hardwood cathedral ceilings, the dependable cross breezes keep the cabinas comfortable day and night. Each cabina has a private porch donning the most comfortable rocking chairs known to man. There is also the opportunity to gather with other guests and the wonderful owners, Gary and Josanne Fleming, at the property's Rancho. You may lounge by the large infinity pool, fix a gourmet meal in the full outdoor kitchen, dance to your choice of music on the huge deck or, our favorite, join the owners for an evening movie under the stars. We did that a lot! Gary and Josanne are warm, welcoming, kind and beyond helpful hosts. They will do anything they can to make sure you enjoy your stay. Having never visited the country before, Gary and Josanne taught us so much about Costa Rica, its culture and how to navigate challenges. They will direct you to the best restaurants in Atenas, which are delicious and cheap! They will give you directions to wherever you want to go... and even offer you a ride to town. When we reflect back on our visit, we have so many great memories of Costa Rica, but it is the Flemings we miss most of all. There were many days we planned to head out to explore this gorgeous country but ended up, like many other guests, not being able to leave our already perfect pura vida life at Poco Cielo. It truly is a little slice of Heaven.

                      LIVING ON A CLOUD

                      5 of 5
"I have the difficult task of explaining what it feels to live on a cloud, literally, because the clouds swiftly surround this piece of land from time to time for just a few moments and you exist for a small time with the sky. The rolling hills that extend into the horizon from the property's backyard spoil your appetite to taste other adventures Costa Rica has to offer...why visit a cloud forest when you live in one? And, the beauty of this home absolutely ruins your patience to stay in any other vacation home less exceptional than this house. This house sits furthest out on the best slice of land in the community so no other rooftop adulterates the view of the magnificent Atenas mountains. You feel like you are the only person in the world with the safe satisfaction of a small, friendly community of home-owners right behind you. The decor of the house is minimal and craftful and every turn offers another opportunity to enjoy the goodness of life. And that's all before leaving the house! The drive from Atenas to San Jose offers panoramic views of Costa Rica Pura Vida and you find yourself downtown in less than an hour. The drive to the Pacific side (Jaco/Manuel Antonio) provides equally impressive views ending in beautiful beaches and national parks less than 90 minutes away. Local fruit and vegetable stands abound in either direction, so there is always a chance to buy the best avocados on your way to and from home. The location of this house gives you the best chance to experience Costa Rica's coasts, volcanos, and local life and still be home to grill yourself a nice steak and take in the gorgeous city lights from a far, far distance. The stars and moon at night, are of course unparallel. I should stop here for fear of seeming unauthentic, but it's all true. Come experience it for yourself. You'll leave a different person." Thanks so much for opening up this sweet serenity to my family Diana, and best of luck with future renters.
