Best Place to Stay in Atenas!

5 of 5
My husband and I have lived in Atenas for 2 years. Although I have passed the sign for Poco Cielo many times, I had never seen the property. I had heard it was very nice, but, of course, that is subjective. "Very nice" doesn't even come close: it is fantastic! Hubby had just gotten home from a grueling trip (he travels throughout Central and South America for work), and instead of the list of household chores he usually comes home to, I said: "Honey, I packed you a bag. We're going away for the weekend! A little honeymoon really, so just relax and leave everything to me!" "Oh", he said. "Where are we going?" "A place called Poco Cielo. It's right down the road. It's kind of like staying home, but being on vacation;they call it a 'staycation' "! From the moment we set foot on the property, we were enchanted by the beauty, serenity, privacy, and attention to detail of the grounds, the bungalow, the common areas including the the gorgeous infinity edge pool and rancho. The photos on the site are nice and depict the true nature of the place, but the lushness was far richer than can be conveyed by photographs. I felt like I was walking through Alice in Wonderland's Magical Maze surrounded by tropical birds calling and cajoling. I expected to see the Cheshire Cat grinning from a branch of the giant Malinche tree that shades the pool/rancho area. The casita came equipped with everything we could want: the most comfy bed with luxurious comforter and cushy pillows, complete kitchen, spacious living area with free WiFi, flat screen TV, DVD/CD player, even candles ready to set the scene for our romantic getaway. The place was immaculate from top to bottom including the grounds and pool area. The owner could not have been more helpful or hospitable. He seemed to know when to give us privacy and when to chat us up. His wealth of local knowledge, helpful recommendations of activities, restaurants, shopping, nature hikes, and more astounded us. Here we are living in the same town, yet hearing about it as though we had just arrived in Costa Rica. This is the perfect place to stay if you are thinking of moving here; it's centrally located to beaches, volcanoes, river-rafting, zip-lining, and more. There are weekly and monthly rates for those who are want to try it out without committing to a long term relocation. The 2 nights we stayed at Poco Cielo were relaxing, refreshing, and affordable. We will be back!
