This is a lovely older home that was both beautifully and comfortably decorated. A soft leather couch and chair in the living room was complemented by such a comfy rocker that it put one guest to sleep. It was a perfect place for game night.
The house was plenty big for two adults and three teenage girls, all of whom enjoyed the spacious garden and backyard. For the price of one night in one room at an also-lovely B & B (where we've also stayed),on the other side of the train tracks you can enjoy three bedrooms and plenty of room to spread out here. You just have to walk over the pedestrian bridge and you're here. No more or less train noise than you'd hear on the other side and it was barely noticeable.
A big plus: There's a block-long renovated factory filled with art galleries, a glass blowing studio, yoga and a great bakery just two blocks away.
You can also walk to DuBois Beach - stopping along the way for coffee or shopping - or drive and park in the lot (if you're early enough) or along the side streets.
And for fun for the kids/teens: Try one of the many programs at New England Science and Sailing along Water St. to mix a little marine education. .
The house was perfectly clean, well maintained and the owner was very helpful leading up to the rental. We'd highly recommend it to anyone with or without kid s or a dog. Stonington doesn't get the surf of nearby RI beaches, but it's just minutes from RI so there are plenty of other public beach options, plus Mystic Seaport or Watch Hill for shopping on rainy days.
