A Retreat Worth of Fables

5 of 5
We found it hard to complain about anything during our stay at Cynthia's home, so my apologies in advance if this review is overly gushing :) Our group originally had a vacation planned for California but due to budget constraints we opted for a staycation and were very glad it was this property that was able to accommodate us (as well as our pooch!). Cynthia is a pet owner herself and graciously left a bed so our pup could be as comfy as we were. How refreshing it is to be able to drive just a short ways off a main road and be transported somewhere that feels much further away. Cynthia's home has the advantage of feeling private yet right within reach of groceries and other daily needs. Arrive and you instantly know you're somewhere special. From the roundabout driveway you get your first sight of the steeply raked roof that will shelter you with its high ceilings during your stay. Inside, the decor throughout the home give it a castle-like feeling all the while retaining some exquisite modern amenities. With more baths than bedrooms you'll never have to worry about waiting on someone to get ready in the morning. Not to mention the sauna that most everyone took advantage of during their stay. The first room you'll probably encounter however is the kitchen. As subdued as it is relative to the rest of the house you'll probably find yourself here a lot as it is a great place to mingle (and mix drinks as we did :). From there the adjacent dining room and sunroom may be conjoined but they still complement each other as you have a backdrop of the outside while dining. After finishing dinner, you can relax in great room front of the fireplace while reading one of many classics on the shelves or enjoy some music if you have a pianist in your midst. All of the bedrooms were well appointed, but my personal favorite was the art studio containing a circular bed, theater seats(!) and decorated with much of Cynthia's personal artwork. Outside are even more locations to relax. A line of Adirondack chairs as well as the octagonal picnic area allow a couple perspectives of the palatial back yard. At night, mushroom shaped light fixtures line the path from the backyard to the dock where we ended many a night. The dock is not only spectacular during the day for taking advantage of the boats that are provided but also great for star gazing. Anyone who books this house will not regret it!

Most memorable, relaxing vacation ever!

This bright, homey, inviting and comfortable cottage made our stay so vey special. You need only bring yourselves to enjoy your days away. Everything you need is there for you, Whether you kayak the shores of Niantic or simply stroll along shore road, your time away will be well spent. We look forward to our return next summer!

Relaxing family stay at charming old farmhouse

5 of 5
Our family had a wonderful stay at this charming old house, enjoyed the fresh eggs, used the grill and hot tub, the patio for outdoor meals, and were very happy with all the spacious living rooms especially for our teenagers who could spread out their games and electronics and watch DVDs without disturbing grown-ups. Also appreciated so many bedrooms and baths. The kitchen is huge and well equipped. We went swimming several times at Hammonasett's uncrowded beach, and browsed shops in Madison and Guilford. In Madison a favorite spot was Ashley's ice cream. My personal favorites were relaxing on the lounge chair on the patio, gazing up at the magnificent trees and listening to the birds (oh that guinea hen!!) and breakfast in the sunny nook on the window seat. Our visit was a treat for the whole family.
